Job Description:
Principal Responsibilities: Aurora Day Camp, a proud member of the Sunrise Association, is seeking an innovative, inspirational and compassionate leader to assume the role of Executive Director (ED), who will oversee the management and strategic growth of Aurora.With the organization now moving into its 8th year in Greater Atlanta, this position offers an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of children and families struggling with pediatric cancer while building a sustainable and impactful future for the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding Aurora's reach and revenue to serve even more children and families across greater Atlanta. This individual must be highly empathic and care deeply for the well-being of every child, family and staff member involved with the organization. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Vision:
  • Serve as a visionary leader for Aurora Day Camp, ensuring alignment with the Sunrise Association's mission to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer.
  • Develop and realize strategic goals that foster the growth of Aurora Day Camp, expanding outreach and services for more families in the Atlanta area.
  • Act as a key liaison between the local camp and the national Sunrise team, ensuring consistency in program delivery and organizational standards.

Fundraising and Development:
  • Must be an experienced fundraiser who can manage their own portfolio, work hands-on with the Development Director on events and walkathons, and lead both professional and lay fundraisers to successfully bring in needed revenue through myriad means.
  • Lead efforts to secure funding through individual, corporate, and foundation support, maintaining and growing relationships with key donors and stakeholders.
  • Set and achieve both short-term and long-term fundraising goals to ensure financial stability and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Board to identify and engage new funding opportunities and partnerships within the Atlanta philanthropic community.
Community Engagement:
  • Represent Aurora Day Camp within the greater Atlanta community, fostering relationships with local healthcare providers such as CHOA, pediatric cancer organizations, schools, and community groups.
  • Act as a passionate spokesperson for the camp's mission, building awareness and support through public speaking engagements and community events.
Organizational Management:
  • Supervise, mentor and inspire a dedicated team of full-time and part-time staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Oversee all operational aspects of Aurora Day Camp, including summer camp programming, year-round activities, and in-hospital programming and outreach.
  • Manage financial operations, ensuring adherence to budgets and fiscal health in partnership with the Leadership Board and the Sunrise Association's financial team.
  • Be willing to work hands-on as part of a team; no job is unimportant or too small.
Board Relations:
  • Work closely with the Leadership Board to develop and execute strategic initiatives, providing regular updates on program outcomes and financial status.
  • Encourage board engagement in fundraising efforts, strategic planning, and community representation.
  • Build upon the current Leadership Board, identifying and recruiting new members who are passionate about the mission.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $100,000 per year with regular increases based on organizational capacity.
  • Benefits include a generous vacation and holiday package, pension, participatory health insurance, optional 403(b), and a flexible spending plan.

  • Must be an innovative thinker who understands leadership and can inspire a team of experienced, successful staff and volunteers.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience,
  • A proven track record in organizational development, event fundraising, foundation cultivation and major donor development.
  • Strong knowledge of Atlanta's philanthropic and business communities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience speaking to diverse audiences.
  • Passion for working with children and families facing serious illness, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a national framework while leading locally focused initiatives.
