Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Executive Director of Human Resources is the the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversite to the HR team for Concord University and the Concord University Research and Development Corporation. CHRO responsibilities include talent planning and acquisition, talent development, HR/Business strategy, workplace efficiency and effectiveness, employee safety, health and wellness, compensation and benefits (total rewards), employment, HR compliance and risk management, and employee relations and engagement. May provide oversite of strategic planning, enterprise risk management, and / or organizational development and success, as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duty/Responsibility

Key Duties and Responsibilities include:

* Leadership and Strategy

* Maintain effective HR strategy that supports achieving the University's strategic goals and objectives.

* Key advisor to management team on employment, talent, and employee relations

* Lead development of HR policy, procedures, and guidance documents

* Talent Planning and Acquisition

* Oversee execution of talent planning and acquisition including maintaining current search guidance and training, talent assessment, and succession.

* HR Compliance and Risk

* Oversee University safety, health, and wellness

* Federal and State compliance with wage and hour, ADA, Affirmative Action, etc.

* Compensation and Benefits

* Maintain current and administer faculty, staff, and executive compensation plans

* Performance and Development

* Monitor staff evaluation processes to enhance performance, effectiveness, and career development

* Employee Relations and Engagement

* Provide guidance to managers and staff with regard to conflict management and resolution

* Coordinate formal resolution processes internally and with Higher Education Policy Commission counsel

* Continue to build culture of engagement

* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education/Knowledge

Minimum Education Master's Required Licenses/Certification

A Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field is preferred. A combination of a Bachelor's Degree and senior level HR experience and training, which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be substituted. Preference is given to applicants who hold a PHR or SPHR certification and/or who are a certified compensation administrator.

Required Skills

Must have a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and establish good working relationships with college administration, employees, and the general public. Must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Must have excellent word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Experience

Type of experience Needed Must have working experience in a Human Resources field with preference given to applicants with managerial level HR experience and HR certification. Amount of Experience Needed (Months/Years) More than 8 years Type of experience Needed Preference is given to applicants with experience with West Virginia education or state human resources systems. Amount of Experience Needed (Months/Years) Over 2 Years, up to 3 years Type of experience Needed Must have word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills.
