The Executive Protection Officer is a certified peace officer assigned to the Executive Protection Unit (EPU). The primary responsibility of an EPU Officer is to provide close personal protection for protectee(s), which includes safe and secure transportation (vehicle or otherwise) for travel inside and outside the United States. The EPU Officer reports to the Executive Protection Supervisor or other member of management as assigned and may work from an office or field location depending upon assignment. The EPU Officer is required to maintain certification status and complete all continuing education and qualifications as required. The EPU Officer will also render basic police services, to include enforcement of the law and protection of the rights and property of the citizenry.

This is a job classification within the Non-Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) Peace Officer Pay Scale job family. This is a job classification within the Public Safety-Emergency Management job family. Operates a motorized vehicle. Operates radio equipment. Administers CPR and first aid. Maintains physical endurance and agility. Acts decisively, rapidly, and knowledgeably in emergency and life-threatening situations. This job works various shifts and may require working extended hours during emergency management operations. Duties require a substantial degree of initiative and independent judgment necessary to take control of dynamic situations.
* Coordinates all processes related to the escort of assigned protectee(s) in public settings and shall not abandon or depart the protectee(s) or the assigned area(s) until properly relieved of duty.
* Provides close personal protection for protectee(s), which includes safe and secure transportation (vehicle or otherwise) for travel inside and outside the United States.
* Conducts analysis of surrounding areas, identifies suspicious behavior or unauthorized individuals, and takes necessary precautions and actions while on duty.
* Conducts risk and threat analysis for protectee(s) travel, public appearances, and daily operations.
* Implements emergency action plans and standard operating procedures to ensure protective actions are performed efficiently and effectively.
* Ensures all protective actions for protectee(s) are executed according to executive close personal protection industry standards and practices and in compliance with Texas State and Federal Laws.
* Reviews and maintains records, reports, summary data and other documentation for completed protective actions, protectee interactions, and other protectee(s) related assignments.
* Documents all critical incidents and submits within required time frame.
* Prepares statistical reports; Verifies reports are accurate and legible.
* Maintains physical fitness to perform essential duties of the position.

Education and Experience:
Requires a High School diploma or equivalency certificate with no felony convictions.
Must be at least 21 years of age or at least 18 years of age with 60 or more hours of accredited college credits or 2 years of military service with an honorable discharge.
Three (3) years law enforcement, military special operations, or executive protection experience
AND,
Active Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer License, or ability to obtain License within one year of appointment.
OR,
Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Must be a US Citizen
Active US Passport
Valid Texas Driver's License
Must be able to pass a criminal background check (including CJIS and Fingerprint submission) and drug screening
Ability to pass a TCOLE certified weapons qualification
Proof of completion of NIMS IS-700, IS-800, IS-100, IS-200, ICS300 within one year of appointment
Preferred:
Law enforcement special operations work experience
Executive protection work experience
Knowledge of:
* Local, state, and federal laws, codes and regulations pertaining to law enforcement and executive protection. Policies, practices, procedures, and terminology of assigned function.
* Excellent writing, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills in a variety of situations.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to effectively track and manage deliverables.
Skill in:
* Must have requisite skills to prepare official documents required to perform assigned functions, including but not limited to interoffice memorandums, letters to other agencies, affidavits, investigative reports and case filing documents (creating clear, concise and grammatically correct documents).
* Must maintain a professional demeanor, to include good interpersonal and public relations skills,
* Must be proficient in the use of defensive tactics requiring physical force including the use of intermediate impact weapons and firearms.
* Must be proficient in the following: computer and vehicle operations, radio communications, scene management and resolution, gaining and maintaining control of persons and investigation and evidence control. Must be proficient in map reading skills.
* Working well under pressure, producing high quality results, while meeting required reporting and notification timelines.
* Presenting facts, precedents, and recommendations orally and in writing and apply where necessary, negotiation and mediation skills.

Must be able to perform physical functions associated with operating a motor vehicle, safely operate a firearm, radio equipment and computer equipment.
