Job Description:

The department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences (ENS) within the Moyes College of Education has many programs (Exercise and Nutrition Science, Fitness Professional, Integrative Nutrition and Sports) that can provide a 50/50 student and other hourly employees with a valuable employment opportunity that would support the student's career objectives.

Exercise Science and Nutrition faculty members teach many hands on learning activities and practical laboratory experiences in the human performance lab, food lab and nutritional biochemistry lab. A student assistant for setting up and cleaning up class and lab spaces is needed and helps the student learn proper care and handling of sensitive equipment used in the profession. Additionally, the ENS programs are generating outcomes assessment data, annual reports, and self-studies. With these needs, the ENS faculty members envision a 50/50 student employed gaining unique experiences in assisting with technology in the classroom and assisting faculty with triangulation of outcomes assessment data. Within these areas, the student employee will be a team player with the ENS faculty and staff and work toward promoting the success of position goals by coordinating efforts with faculty and students. These efforts would require good communication and customer service with the customer poised to be faculty, students, and on campus and off campus laboratory related sites.

Specific duties:

Communicate with faculty, staff, and students engaged in undergraduate and graduate research using the human performance lab, biomechanics, nutritional biochemistry lab, food lab, greenhouse, and community garden under the purview of faculty leadership.

Set up and clean up of classroom laboratory sessions including exercise, physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, and or fitness testing classes or labs. shopping for foods needed for a lab session or harvesting items from the greenhouse and garden.

Assisting NUTR faculty with creating and managing videos for our cooking demo database and website.

Assisting ENS faculty members with research projects in the human performance lab, biomechanics lab, WSD, ENS lab and nutritional biochemistry lab.

Participate in set up and cleanup of ENS and/or NUTR laboratory classes under the direction of a ENS faculty or staff member.

Compiling data using excel and other database software

Formatting assessments for delivery and outcome measurement.

This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.

This is a workstudy eligible position.

Preferred Qualifications

For the 50/50 program, the student hourly worker must be an undergraduate student in good standing with the University (minimum of 2.0 GPA) continuously enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours in the fall and spring semesters; 6 credit hours in the summer) within a major program of studies in the department of Exercise and Nutrition Science.

Junior or Senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher; exercise assessment,fitness testing, food handling and gardening experience; basic science laboratory skills; computer and technology skills; data entry and analysis experience or coursework; proficient in MS word, excel, chitester, and canvas; experience using sensitive equipment in the human performance lab and/or nutritional biochemistry lab, communicate and work well with faculty and students.
