Apply today!Job DescriptionNaval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a professional with an interest in scientific computing and a passion for customer service to join our User Support unit within the Scientific Computing Support & Technology (SCST) subdivision of Reactor Technology. Our User Support unit is a diverse and experienced team who supports two main customer bases. The High Performance Computing (HPC) team within User Support predominantly administers the scheduling system within the NNL HPCs and supports HPC users in collaboration with the Information Technology Department. The team also supports administration and support activities for other off-premises / cloud-based environments used by NNL staff. The HPC team's primary responsibility is to assist HPC users with executing high-priority design analyses on NNL's HPC systems. The successful candidate will also work on user experience initiatives on Linux systems through administrating the systems, improving user interfaces and implementing tools and technologies to improve efficiency for administrators as well as users. The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced team and receive on-the-job mentoring in an agile learning environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Identify and troubleshoot issues that ariseCollaborate with members of adjoining hardware, software development and future technology groupsDevelop and maintain self-service resources for users Respond to user support requests Develop a deep understanding of user's needs through regular interactions The successful candidate should expect to be a contributing member on one or more ancillary teams focused on continuous improvement and/or cross organizational initiatives. This role will require an on-site presence at an NNL location, but there are opportunities for some work from home, as priorities allow.Required Combination of Knowledge and SkillBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; orMaster's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.Preferred SkillsA minimum of 2 years of Linux experience. Proven teaming, organization and interpersonal skills (creative, positive and collaborative work style)Computationally focused degree in the areas of science or engineeringExperience with:High performance architecture and administration including Linux operating systems and job schedulers (e.g. Red Hat, Ubuntu, Fedora, Slurm, InfiniBand)Software environment/development and programming languages such as Git, containers, GitHub, Azure, Python, C++, Bash, Powershell, Fortran, etc.HPC storage system administration (e.g. Lustre, Netapp, etc.)Experience with customer support including responding to issues, resolving support requests, and engaging with users Experience with formal communication, both written and verbal, including ability to articulate and document processes to both fellow administrators as well as users.
