JOB SUMMARY:

The Experiment Specialist is responsible for supporting innovation efforts and the development of new product, new processes, and product enhancements. Under general guidance, he or she completes tasks related to fabrication, experimentation, computational analysis, research, design, and testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ The development of new products and processes through research, design, prototype creation, testing, and evaluation

+ Work with Engineers to define experiment parameters and methods; organize model setup, define desired data collection, and review results; setup, run, and compile results of numerical simulations

+ Work with team designers and engineers to create prototypes for testing, analysis, and fabrication; check and review 3D models, drawings, and fabricated parts

+ Test and evaluate prototypes and new processes in light of innovation goals and criteria

+ Fabrication of experimental apparatus and setup; use 3D printing and other methods to accelerate design iteration for prototype creation, testing, and design advancement

+ Compile, document, and review data; evaluate performance, update relevant team members, and iterate through the design process for product / process improvement

+ Prepare summary reports and data plots to communicate results and progress

+ Assist in observing and evaluating new technology performance in piloting and plant scenarios

+ Knowledge of Crown products and processes including Preparation, Extraction, and Liquids advantageous but not required.

+ Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

+ Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school

+ 3 years or more related experience

+ Self-motivated

+ Good written and verbal communication skills.

+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

+ Able to apply principle of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of innovation and development initiatives.

+ Able to communicate design and prototype concepts with sketching and CAD

+ Able to review 3D models and fabrication drawings

+ Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, calculations, and test results.

+ Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

+ General and working knowledge of chemical and process-modeling software such as ChemCAD or Aspen

+ General and working knowledge of data acquisition methods, analysis tools, software, and programming such as Labview, Matlab

+ General and working knowledge / experience in CFD and FEA and capable of defining and reviewing numerical models and results in software such as ANSYS, CFX, and Fluent

+ Working knowledge and ability of 3D design and related tools including Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault

+ Knowledge and experience in Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow, Structural Mechanics, Dynamics, Systems & Controls, Tribology, Chemistry, and Physics.

+ Must be able to communicate in English fluently. Ability to communicate in a second language - European or Asian languages preferred but not required.

+ Ability to travel on need basis - domestically or internationally and up to 10% of the time.
