Position: Extended Day Lead InstructorLocation: Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell Elementary Schools in Watertown, MAReports to: Director of Community EducationDepartment: Community EducationSchedule: Minimum of 3 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM daily, Preference for 5 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM. Additional hours on district elementary early release days, 12:00-6:00 PM.Pay Rate: $26.45 - $33.79 per hour based on relevant, job-alike experienceSummary:Watertown Community Education is a self-sustaining program of the Watertown Public Schools that provides quality enrichment programs and courses for children, adults, and families. Watertown Community Education is currently hiring for various open positions supporting the Extended Day Programs at the Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell schools. The Extended Day Program provides a safe, nurturing environment after school for children in kindergarten through Grade 5 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM daily. Activities are provided that challenge each child to explore, discover, create, and grow.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, supervise and lead student activities.
- Must be flexible, creative and committed to meeting the needs of children in grades PreK-Grade 5 in an after-school program setting.
- Responsible for planning and implementing weekly activities for students. Up to two hours/wk planning time will be provided within the 2:30PM-6:00PM work hours.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques designed to help children learn conflict resolution skills
- Maintains proper use and daily upkeep of program spaces and all materials/equipment belonging to the program and/or school
- The position may require extra hours for planning family events and/or meetings with the site coordinator.
- May require supervision of middle and high school volunteers.
- Must maintain daily attendance records, supervision of snack time, and family communication.
- May be required to support at other Extended Day Program site locations based on program needs, staffing, and/or enrollment.
- Other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Program Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education
Professional Commitment:The Lead Instructor is required to work a minimum of 3 days per week. 5 day per week schedules are preferred.In addition to his/her regularly scheduled hours the Lead Instructor is required to attend the following periodic meetings:
- Weekly meetings with the site coordinator and Director, monthly staff meetings, and two annual program family nights.
- May also include other various family events that may occur during the school year.
- Attend annual mandatory program orientation and training days.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 months of experience working with school-age children preferred, not required OR
- Associates Degree and 9 months of experience working with school-age children preferred, not required OR
- 12 months of experience working with school-age children and working on a degree in a related field
Annual Professional Development Requirement:
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Monthly Community Education Meetings
