POSITION:

Central SEED/Weekend Academy - Guidance Counselor

LOCATION:

Various locations throughout New York City

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed certified Social Worker in New York City schools

SELECTION CRITERIA:

* Willingness to carry out the above duties and responsibilities

* Applicants must be available to support the SEED/Weekend Academy program in person.

* No substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OEO, OSI, or SCI investigation within the last 3 years (does not preclude Guidance Counselors with less than three years of service).

* Satisfactory record of attendance

* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with running small groups of parent workshops on a weekly basis following a continuum of support for families of students with special needs

* Demonstrated knowledge of effective techniques and approaches for working with families of diverse cultures and backgrounds when responding to questions and needs in a sensitive and culturally responsive manner

* Evidence of successful counseling strategies targeting families with regard to academic readiness, discipline-related guidance issues, social and emotional development, substance abuse (if trained), and conflict mediation

* Multilingual counselors are welcomed

* Ability to assist staff and teachers around guidance-based topics

* Knowledge of and experience with contemporary issues that affect youth living in high poverty communities. Ability to provide strategies to families in promoting social and emotional competence throughout sessions

* Success in working collaboratively with colleagues, parents/caregivers, and partners Ability to retrieve, organize, and report student data using all NYCDOE data systems (e.g. ARIS, STARS, AIS, SESIS)

* Evidence of forming successful partnerships with community-based organizations and other organizations that offer social and emotional supports to families

* Knowledge of or ability to make referrals for families for community-based services if needed

* Evidence of successful conflict resolution and ability to deescalate in group settings

Reduction in Per Session Positions: If the number of per session positions in an activity is reduced, staff will be released on the basis of least seniority in the activity. If positions are subsequently restored within a year in the per session activity staff shall be reemployed on the basis of seniority.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Work under the direct supervision of the SEED Site Administrator, and in collaboration with the Related Service Supervisors and SEED and Weekend Academy Program Coordinators

* Implement weekly sessions/workshops to families based on predetermined schedule.

* Discussing behavior intervention plans/behavior strategies with families to support the academic, social and emotional development of their children

* Consulting with families to make appropriate referrals when needed

* Documentation of group sessions (to be determined and shared by program)

* Support the SEED/Weekend Academy program with student data collection

* Communicate with families when scheduling changes occur due to Counselor absence

* Other duties and responsibilities that the program may require in accordance with the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.

WORK SCHEDULE:

* Saturdays in December 2024 - June 21, 2025, excluding the following dates:

* 2024: 12/21/2024, 12/28/2024

* 2025: 1/18/2025, 2/15/2025, 2/22/2025, 3/22/2025, 4/12/2025, 4/19/2025

* 8:30-2:30pm, contingent upon student participation

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
