Externship Program Coordinator- Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne UniversitySalary: $20.00 per hour Location: Tribone Center Law Clinic Position Status: Part-time Hours: Varied (20 hours per week) Position Number: 820004/60-029 FLSA Status: Non-exemptPOSITIONSUMMARY:The Externship ProgramCoordinator will serve in a support capacity working alongside the TriboneCenter for Clinical Legal Education Clinical Director, Externship and Pro BonoProgram Director and Assistant Dean of Career Services to coordinate andperform daily operational duties with respect to externship and pro bonorelated projects and programs for the Thomas R. Kline School of Law.DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:Teach externship seminars such as:JudicialNon-ProfitGovernmentAdvancedSummer General Intensive ProgramHigh Credit Externship Train site supervisors and conduct externship site inspections; Work to continue to grow the externship program; Advertise and screen externship opportunities and developingpolicies and procedures as needed;Schedule site visits, orientations and tracking of externship andclinical students using the Externship 12Twenty platform ;Develop and conduct programming to enhance student and employerinteractions; and communicating, marketing, and providing reports on activitiesand outcomes;Maintain contact with academic departments and providinginformation on externship and clinical offerings;Create and distribute marketing and promotional materials for thedepartment;Crete and distribute program materials including ExternshipStudent Handbook and Externship Field Supervisor Handbook ;Work with Marketing and the Executive Director to createdepartmental marketing strategies internally & externally;Track and update externship data, including externship placements,student timesheets, etc. Design and create site maps for the externship webpages, creatingand updating content on externship webpages, and updating placement informationon the law school's website;Coordinate and assist the Externship Director with the creationand implementation of new externship opportunities; Perform departmental correspondence including responding toemails, phone calls, and in person visits from students;Preparefor and conduct externship orientation session; Preparefor and attend Judicial, Government, and Public Interest Law Reception;Preparefor and attend Externship Open House;Schedulemeetings with 1L, 2L and 3L students interested in externships for followingsemester;Contactexternship placement locations before beginning of semester to determineplacement availability;Followup with students and externship placement locations;Reviewstudents' externship application materials (resumes and cover letters);Prepareand send out regular email blasts announcing available externship positions;Workwith career services office to determine available placements and advertisingof the same;Keeptrack of ongoing externship applications over the course of the semester;Keeptrack of student's timesheets to make sure they are keeping up with externshiphours;Reviewmid-semester and final externship evaluations;Meetwith students outside of class as needed;Keeptrack of federal/state court trial schedule to allow students to observe, andset up meetings with court staff/law clerks to give students and opportunity toask questions;Work with exchange and LLM students to facilitate placements; andRepresent the externship program to the University, Law School,local, national and international community.Evaluate the professionalperformance of the externship faculty in their capacity of externship teaching;Supervision and managementof the Pro Bono/Public Service program. This includes:Management of opportunities to for students to participate in;Organizing new opportunities for the students to participate in;Coordinate any trainings necessary for the placement of students and;Manage and review students time provided to placements, including preparation for recognition at graduation.Assist with course assignments, class scheduling and studentregistration.Assist as needed, with the administration of operational detailsof the clinic such as facilities, technology and requirements for students. Recommend Program changes toDirector as needed. Attend national and/or localconferences related to experiential and pro bono education.Assist the Director, as needed,with representation of the Center to the University, Law School and communityat large.Performance of related duties asassigned by the Dean.Completesother duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Minimum qualifications:JD.Preferred qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1-2 years professional experience inthe legal field. Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions.
