  • TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
  • SALARY RANGE: $800 per mentee per year. Paid twice a year.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Possess a West Virginia Teaching Certificate
    • Five Years of teaching experience
    • Successful experience of fostering student growth
    • Must be able to demonstrate organizational and leadership skills
    • Must be strong in classroom management and curriculum development
    • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • POSITION SUMMARY:
    • Instructional Support Mentors support instructional growth and development of new teachers in their first two years by helping implement effective instructional strategies, classroom management, analyzing student work, differentiated instruction, class culture and climate, supporting ELL and students with special needs, etc. Instructional Support Mentors use multiple data collection tools and protocols that guide new teachers in reflecting on practice and monitoring progress towards professional goals for instructional improvement. Instructional Support Mentors work closely with classroom teachers, site leaders, and administrators to accelerate the instructional effectiveness of new teachers for a positive impact on student learning.
  • SPECIFIC TRAINING/SKILLS:
    • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction, assessment and methods that improve student achievement in the classroom
    • Ability to utilize innovative teaching methodologies
    • Ability to collaborate and maintain confidential relationships with administrators and teachers
    • Demonstrated the ability to develop goals, action plans, and professional development plans
    • Willingness to engage in formative assessment processes, including non-evaluative, reflective conversations with teachers using evidence of classroom practice and student learning
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Evidence of excellent oral, written and technology skills
    • Ability to organize and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Build trusting relationships with new teachers and maintain confidentiality
    • Utilize foundational mentoring tools, protocols, and language to support coaching conversations that accelerate teacher practice and student learning.
    • Plan and prepare lessons, analyze student work, and conduct classroom observations beside new district teachers to inform instruction and enhance student achievement.
    • Model, as appropriate, innovative teaching methodologies through techniques such as co-teaching and demonstration lessons.
    • Provide opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary practice by arranging peer visits.
    • Encourage teachers to identify instructional resources and support throughout the entire school community.
    • Incorporate technology and analysis of data to advance both teacher learning and classroom practice.
    • Collaborate with administrators to ensure foundations are in place for new teacher growth.
    • Learn the critical knowledge, skills, and tools to initiate and maintain effective mentoring relationships with teachers that result in instructional growth through formal professional development.
    • Fully participate in coaching professional development, including Instructional Mentor Forums, peer coaching partnerships, professional learning communities and other area, team, and committee meetings.
    • Commit to meeting or exceeding all performance targets established by program leader.
    • Maintain and submit required documentation (including but not limited to):
      • Online mentoring protocols and data collection tools and interaction logs
      • Current and accurate coaching calendar reflecting scheduled meetings
      • Accurate time and attendance records.
    • Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibility, responsiveness, curiosity, and the eagerness to learn.
    • Handle information in a confidential manner in accordance with established policies and legal requirements.
