Temporary Position Name: FABLAB Technician AssistantDepartment/Division: Workforce and Economic DevelopmentAnticipated Schedule (days/hours): 40 hr./wk Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pmJob Location: 1401 East Court Street, Flint Mi 48503 Purpose of Role/Temporary:The FABLAB Technician Assistant supports the design and business operations of the FABLABat Mott Community College. This role involves hands-on work with design software, assistingclients with product development, and supporting business functions related to the lab'soperation. The position will report to the FABLAB Director.Job Duties/Key Responsibilities:1. Design and Prototyping:a. Assist clients with the design and development of prototypes using CAD softwareand other design tools.b. Operate and maintain FABLAB equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters andother fabrication tools.c. Provide technical support and training to clients on the use of design andprototyping software.2. Client Support and Interaction:a. Work closely with clients (students, community members, businesses) tounderstand their needs and guide them through the product developmentprocess.b. Offer consultations to clients on material selection, manufacturing processes, anddesign optimization.c. Manage client project timelines to ensure timely completion and delivery ofprototypes.3. Business Operations:a. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the FABLAB, including tracking usage,managing inventory, and ensuring proper billing of services.b. Support the marketing and outreach efforts to attract new clients to the FABLAB.c. Prepare reports on FABLAB activities, including client interactions and revenuegeneration.4. Maintenance and Safety:a. Perform regular maintenance on all FABLAB equipment to ensure safe andefficient operation.b. Enforce safety protocols within the lab, ensuring all clients and staff adhere toguidelines.c. Coordinate with external vendors for the repair and servicing of equipment asneeded.5. Collaboration and Training:a. Collaborate with the FABLAB Director and other staff to develop new programsand services that meet client needs.b. Provide workshops and training sessions on FABLAB tools and software forclients and staff.c. Support the FABLAB Director in expanding the lab's offerings to align with thestrategic goals of the college.Position Requirements:Minimum Requirements:1. Associate's degree in a technical field such as engineering, design, or a related area;relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.2. Proficiency in CAD software and experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and otherfabrication technologies.3. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse clients.Preferred Requirements:1. Bachelor's degree in a related field.2. Experience in a maker space, fabrication lab, or similar environment.3. Knowledge of business operations, including client management and billing processes.4. Experience in developing and delivering training or workshops.
