Are you an expert in the field of metal fabrication? Do you possess a high level of understanding in how metals can be bent or adhered to produce unique and custom equipment?
With sustainability and conservation in mind, you will deliver technical and professional engineering, construction, and maintenance to sustain facilities, infrastructure, and ecosystems under the Department's care.
With your experience, you will utilize your knowledge in all phases of fabrication, this position supports a team of fabrication specialists to create devices that aid in the production of hatchery fish and staff safety.
WHAT TO EXPECT -
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this position will:
Metal Fabrication.
* Performs all phases of metal fabrication using mild steel, stainless, and aluminum.
* Reads and interprets various forms of drawings or illustrations and uses that information to independently fabricate various custom items to aid in hatchery fish production.
* Sets up fabrication projects to include squaring and tacking materials, punching, drilling and coping metals, and completing final welds to specification or to ensure the end product meets customer expectations.
* Generate cut lists, fabricate, and assemble the work using TIG, MIG or SMAW welding processes.
* Cut, weld, braze and solder metal parts in the repair and replacement of parts for mechanical equipment, or in repair, replacement, or installation.
Hydraulics.
* Fabricate lift gates that have been modified from stem driven to hydraulic, along with fish traps that have raiseable floors.
* Repair various existing hydraulic units, retrofitting outdated systems with hydraulic, such as knife gates, tote tilts, and crowders.
* Fabricate hydraulic dump beds for fish hauling vehicles.
Plumbing.
* Fabricates, installs, and repairs pipes, valves, manifolds, and gates.
* Disassembles valves, replaces worn parts, and reassembles them.
Working Conditions:
Work setting: Work is performed in a fabrication shop and occasionally at construction sites in hatcheries and wildlife areas. Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
Schedule: Typically, Monday - Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Work overtime as needed/requested. This may include overnight stays and evening and weekend work.
Travel requirements: Travel 20-40% depending on season.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade and one (1) year of experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
Or
Four (4) years of experience in the welding trade, to include three (3) years of experience specifically in fabrication.
Experience with:
Welding mild steel, stainless, and aluminum.
MIG and stick welding.
Knowledge of:
Characteristics of ferrous and non-ferrous metals under welding conditions.
Principles and operation of oxyacetylene and arc welding equipment.
Fluxes and hardening agents.
Fundamentals of heat treatment.
Advanced understanding of spatial reasoning orientation in two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces, cause and effect, heat conduction, velocity, gravity, and force.
Skills in:
Basic computer skills.
Reading and interpreting blueprints, engineered drawings, sketches, and notes.
License: Valid driver's license recognized by the state of Washington and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess some or all the following:
* Recognized WABO certification for 7018, 6011, or dual-shield welding.
* TIG Welding.
