Position Purpose: Fabrication of new drilling equipment as well as repair welding of current augers/tooling. Welding typically consists of MIG welding, but TIG welding is a plus.
Essential Responsibilities - Read drawings for accuracy of welding and dimensional layout
- Layout jigs and fixtures for tooling when necessary
- Understand different welding techniques/procedures
- Weld and grind tooling and repair damaged items
- Inspect welds for possible cracks/failures
- Inspect completed product against specifications ensuring all aspects of quality and accuracy have been met
- Follow shop floor control procedures
- Follow all safety compliance procedures established by the company
- Always work safely using Personal Protection Equipment, such as safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and other PPE as necessary to comply with safety standards policies
- Verify that proper lock-out/tag-out procedures and precautions have been taken prior to the any service being performed on a machine or piece of equipment
Knowledge | Skills | Abilities - Ability to see a full fabrication project through from start to finish
- Proficiency interpreting blueprints and shop math
- Proficiency using precision measuring tools
- Self-starter
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Dual shield welding experience preferred
- Experience in operating large power equipment (vertical saws, drill press, overhead cranes)
- Experience fabricating with large materials (1/4 to 1-1/2 )
Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent
- One-year Technical School diploma strongly preferred
- 1-2 years fabrication/welding experience
- Weld certifications may be required
Work Environment - Machine shop environment
- Medium work that includes moving and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Operation of machinery and power tools
- Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for the duration of shift
