Job DetailsJob LocationWhatcom Family YMCA - Bellingham, WAPosition TypeFull TimeSalary Range$25.83 - $28.70 HourlyDescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:Under the guidance of the Facilities Director, the Assistant Facilities Director is responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of facility operations, preventative maintenance strategies, cleanliness and repair. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist the Facilities Director in maintaining mechanical systems. Make sure boilers, fire safety equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical units, gas, ventilation, and HVAC systems are all in good working condition. Ensure that assigned vehicles and other equipment are maintained and operated in accordance with approved safety guidelines.Assist the Facilities Director in providing coordination of facility maintenance and cleanliness of all designated areas in all facilities, including but not limited to weight equipment, cardiovascular machines, sports equipment, pool area, locker rooms, lobbies, gyms, meeting rooms and restrooms.When directed or in the absence of the Facilities Director, provide supervision of the facilities technicians, janitorial staff, community service workers, and contract employees.Assist the Facilities Director in working with outside agencies such as the local Health, Building and Fire Departments, to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds. Maintain all required logs and record books.Manage projects as directed, including maintaining contractor and vendor relationships and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget expectation.Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned.Maintain inventory controls for cost effective operations.Schedule, complete and document preventative maintenance programs.Coordinate special projects as directed by the Facilities Director.Assist in monitoring all work being performed by outside contractors.Manage all facility grounds work to insure they are maintained in a safe and presentable manner.Responsible for alerting the Facilities Director of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or that may occur.Maintain a professional courteous manner with all residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.Ensure compliance of all work related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner.Follow established company policies and those outlined in the Employee Handbook.Complete special projects and other responsibilities as directed.Follows organization's policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse; including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to all staff and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect youth from abuse. In addition, a willingness to learn the skills necessary to repair and perform routine maintenance on a variety of equipment is required.Three years of related experience required.Two years of supervisory experience preferred.Proficiencies will include experience with building codes, construction, effective safety practices, standards and techniques pertaining to buildings maintenance operations.Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, assign and evaluate the work of janitorial staff and contract employees.Knowledge and experience implementing general safety standards used to comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.Ability to concurrently handle a wide variety of projects. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents is required.Ability to report and record maintenance requests.Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment and vehicles.Ability to and obtain and maintain YMCA van driving certification requiredUnderstanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is preferred. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.2. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.3. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.4. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.5. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.6. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi - reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
