This role requires working full time on-site at the Skirball Center for Innovation based in Orangeburg, New York.SUMMARY Under general supervision, is responsible for cleaning the facility and laboratory areas and assisting in maintaining day-to-day operations of equipment and the facility, as required to keep the facility operating in a safe, compliant and orderly state. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for cleaning the facility and lab areas, including polishing, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing and collecting trash from office and lab areas.
- May perform work within multiple maintenance trades (carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing and mechanical repair). Assists in maintaining day-to-day facility infrastructure, fixing walls, toilets, plumbing, lighting, furniture, equipment, etc.
- Maintains loading dock. Receives parcels, gases, and chemicals.
- Assists with escorting contractors and vendors within the facility.
- Assists in performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure continued safe and compliant state of facility and equipment.
- Assures standard operating procedures are followed.
- Maintains cleanliness of conference rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.
- Assists with office and furniture moves.
- May be required to perform sanitization and basic husbandry (cleaning, feeding) in the vivarium.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma required.
- 2 years of janitorial/facilities maintenance experience.
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- General mechanical skills.
- Prior experience in a vivarium and laboratory environment preferred.
- Strong focus on flexibility, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, good follow-up and judgment. Must be able to prioritize.
- Must possess excellent communication and writing skills, patience, professionalism and ability to effectively interact with staff and management alike.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular, Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to analyze information and solve problems relating to facilities issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, crawl, use hands to touch and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus. The work environment includes the entire inside and the outside of the facility, including an indoor, climate-controlled Vivarium. The lighting is appropriate. The noise level in certain animal areas can be above normal. Working on elevation (ladder) may be occasionally required. There are hazards, and protective gear may be required to be worn or used. COMPENSATION The hiring range for this position is $38,000 - $44,000 per year. The annual salary that will ultimately be offered to the successful candidate will depend on job-related knowledge, education, skills, and experience.
