Job DescriptionStatement of the jobThe University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking a full time Facilities Maintenance Worker CL2. This position is 40-hours per week (Saturday, Sunday and two weekdays). The starting rate is $17.37 for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee within the Service & Maintenance collective bargaining unit. In addition the University will contribute up to a 4% matching contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America's Well Workplace Award and offers a wellness program.The Facilities Maintenance Worker performs defined tasks related to cleaning assigned areas, performing basic grounds keeping responsibilities, custodial services, and/or minor and basic maintenance responsibilities. The incumbent is typically assigned to a specific building or function (grounds, custodial, etc) on a specific campus. This is an essential services position, and will potentially be required to work during campus closures.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Employee operates commercial cleaning equipment, uses cleaning chemicals and materials, and operates and maintains groundskeeping and landscaping equipment.
  • Performs heavy lifting while performing grounds duties, custodial moving, cleaning and set-ups.
  • Ability to climb up to a 12' ladder to clean, change lights, decorate, etc.
  • Work is often in a cold, hot, dusty environment
  • Respond to call-backs and be on campus within 30 minutes of being called.
  • Take a reasonable amount of over-time assignments on an as-needed basis.
  • Works alone or in groups.
  • Unlocks and secures buildings.
Qualifications Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Valid Driver's License and be an authorized and approved University Driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  • Employee must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, often delivered via email.
  • Must have basic computer skills to navigate for time entry, benefits, email, & etc.
Preferred:
  • 6 months-1 year of verifiable experience in commercial building cleaning and maintenance, preferably in a classroom/office environment
  • 6 months-1 year of verifiable experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, and operation/maintenance of small grounds equipment
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Customer service principles;
  • Safety principles;
  • Equipment use and troubleshooting;
  • Monitoring and maintaining inventory.
  • Providing exemplary customer service;
  • Performing manual labor;
  • Ability to understand Safety Data Sheets;
  • Ability to pass required safety training;
  • Employee must have good communication skills; be able to get along well with co-workers, supervision, building occupants and students. Must also be able to work well independently.
Physical Requirements:
  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Lifting 40 pounds regularly, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
