Position Summary Do you have strong mechanical and maintenance skills? This may be the job for you!Under general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced performs maintenance and repairs to building mechanical equipment including fire alarm systems performs advanced-level electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs, and performs maintenance and repair to heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) units, controls, steam lines, valves, and associated equipment. The incumbent independently troubleshoots, diagnoses, and determines alternatives for repair or solves the issue directly. The position maintains, repairs, and completes minor remodeling projects on building structural components, grounds, and paved areas. Salary Information Starting wage is $25.57 per hour, plus an attractive employee benefits package. Additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced is in pay schedule-range 03-13. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details The position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a monthly weekend rotation and early arrivals for snow removal.Job duties require the ability to move, remove, and install objects, occasionally exerting over 100 pounds of force; climb and work on ladders, lift equipment, and/or scaffolding; work with loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; and adjust or increase work hours as needed to meet operational needs.Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Qualifications In their resume, minimally qualified applicants will provide details about their experience:
- Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including direct digital control (DDC) systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, etc.) ; and
- Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems
Well-qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience:
- Following and applying Life Safety Code with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
Additional required and preferred experience that will be addressed at a later stage in the selection process are:
- Troubleshooting electric motors; and
- Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing generators ; and
- With industry safety programs and requirements ; and/or
- Using computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and work orders; and/or
- Working in occupied spaces, especially around vulnerable populations; and/or
- With healthcare safety programs and requirements
