Department: Maintenance FLSA Status: Non-ExemptClassification/Level: Labor, PG-5 Date: 04/2024Under the direction of the Construction Lead, the Carpenter is responsible for performing a variety of building construction, repair, remodeling, carpentry, and maintenance duties. This position is Covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for performing work orders for repairs.
  • Completes remodeling projects.
  • Responsible for framing walls, installing door frames, installing drop ceiling, dry walling, mudding, staining, and painting.
  • Performs door lock repairs and replacements.
  • Performs tile installations and repairs.
  • Assists County employees in moving and/or transporting furniture.
  • Assists in Allen County Community Development Corp. (ACCDC) board ups.
  • Performs asbestos removal and encapsulation.
  • Performs a variety of weather-related activities, including salting and snow removal.
  • Assists with general maintenance duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED and more than a year of construction experience
  • Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Asbestos License preferred
  • Valid Driver's License to perform work orders and/or to operate county owned vehicles required
  • Knowledge of carpentry with the ability to apply knowledge when completing work assignments
  • Knowledge of building construction and constructions codes and the ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to price and purchase construction materials
  • Ability to use various power tools, hand tools, Asbestos abatement equipment and other job-related equipment
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable safety practices and procedures in order to protect self, others, tools and equipment
  • Must be able to pass Federal background check in order to gain access to secured buildings
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:The Carpenter performs work that is moderately complex when performing work orders for repairs and completing remodeling projects. The ability to understand work processes, methods and use of equipment and machinery is required in order to perform repairs and remodeling and assist with general maintenance duties.RESPONSIBILITY:The Carpenter performs work under moderate supervision and makes recommendations or requests to deviate from general instructions when necessary. A moderate degree of accuracy, care and skill is required in order to protect tools and equipment, as well as prevent injury to others.PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:The Carpenter maintains frequent contact with other County employees when performing work orders, remodeling projects and general maintenance.WORKING CONDITIONS:The Carpenter works in and out of County owned buildings and facilities with frequent time spent standing and walking about. Frequent lifting of more than sixty pounds, bending, pushing/pulling, reaching over head, kneeling, crawling, and detailed inspection exist and very frequent attention to detail and monitoring of equipment is required.
