Job Description:

Overview

Responsible person to maintain and upkeep all assigned facilities/properties. Maintain the external/internal appearance of all homes/buildings within the I/DD department. It is important for this position to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and repairing all premises. Must also possess a keen eye for detail and diligence. The Maintenance Specialist will provide assistance on special projects for the department and collaboration with other maintenance specialists as needed.

Responsibilities

STAFFING

In partnership with the Residential Management Team:

* Assists with trash removal and recycling

* Maintain interiors of all houses/programs. This includes but not limited to: cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.

* Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, showers and kitchens; restock disposable items) paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc.).

* Maintain outer grounds by watering plants, cleaning entrance, ensuring there are no environmental hazards.

* Perform maintenance and minor repairs: including painting

* Report major damages and oversee minor repair timelines.

* Ensure property security by maintaining locks, windows and any mechanical devices and alarms on the properties.

* Undertake occasional/seasonal custodial/janitorial task: shoveling snow, salting grounds, moving items (furniture/supplies) and landscaping.

* Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are available.

PROGRAM

In partnership with the Residence Management Team

* Ensures that the program meets the guidelines and regulations which govern residential operations.

COMMUNICATION

In partnership with the Residential Management Team

* Is an effective communicator with colleagues and people supported.

* Establish positive relations.

* Provides ongoing feedback for director and other executive staff.

OTHER

* Provides safe work environment for staff and people supported.

* Other related duties as assigned by supervisor

* Attends in-service trainings and participates in continuing education to develop skills; implements and demonstrates skills learned to build staff skillsets.

Competencies

* Will demonstrate excellence in providing culturally appropriate supports to person supported and staff using a person-centered approach.

* Will work with the team to develop plans that promote health, safety and wellbeing of all people supported.

* Will support the direct support staff and person supported.

Qualifications

Physical Demands

Able to demonstrate skills and support individuals with disabilities; able to assist an individual physically when needed; able to lift and/or assist a person in an emergency.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Must be able to travel to the different program sites

Required Education and Experience

* Proven experience in a related role.

* Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.

* Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.

* Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices

* Attention to detail and conscientiousness.

Preferred Education and Experience

HS Diploma

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

AMAP and First Aid/CPR/AED certification a plus

Must have a clean NYS Driver's License
