Assist, plan, and evaluate facility maintenance requirements and identify opportunities for improvement in the areas of facility maintenance, facility fixed equipment and facility grounds maintenance, and make recommendations to align with operational needs. Support, maximize and evaluate the performance of team personnel. Examples of DutiesEssential Job Functions
- Coordinates, schedules, and assigns resources dedicated to the maintenance and repair of Operations and Maintenance Facilities, transit centers, bus stops, shelters, and other various transit properties or facilities.
- Coordinate, assign and monitor resources dedicated to the preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance and repair of Operations and Maintenance Facility, transit centers, bus stops, shelters and other various transit properties or facilities, including fuel island and bus washer.
- Reviews the condition of and ensures maintenance and repair of facility equipment, including but not limited to lawn care equipment and bus washer. Inspects tools and equipment for condition and ensures sufficient equipment for operational use.
- Oversees the maintenance of agency facilities are performed according to established timelines and schedules.
- Trains and instructs other staff in established procedures and assists Service Workers when needed.
- Work with Procurement Department to administer contract services for facility maintenance and repairs, including pest control, janitorial, landscaping, HVAC systems; electrical systems; power generators; exhaust systems; irrigation systems; bay door operations, systems and building structures including roofs, gutters, doors, drywall, flooring and painting . Ensures compliance with purchasing procedures.
- Collaborate with Planning department for facility remodels, upgrades, and construction projects, ensuring compliance during completion. Acts as lead in the field during construction and monitors, reviews and inspects work performed by contractors and vendors.
- Assists in the completion of capital projects and serves as one of the agency representatives at capital construction meetings.
- Work with Safety & Training Manager, Maintenance Manager and Grants Manager to ensure compliance and reporting requirements for are met for environmental programs i.e. Storm Water drain. Act as backup to Maintenance and Safety Departments as needed. Coordinate to respond to leaks and spills that may affect use and maintenance of transit facilities. For reporting purposes, coordinate activities with the Safety Department that affect stormwater, such as lot sweeps.
- Assists in selecting and purchasing supplies and equipment needed to perform the assigned duties. Ensure compliance with GHT Purchasing Policy.
- Ensure compliance with established safety practices related to work assignments, and facility maintenance.
- Works independently within the framework of GHT policy, procedure and regulatory requirements to plan, establish and schedule the priorities of Facility Maintenance. Thorough understanding of employee policy, collective bargaining agreement and other agency policies, practices, and procedures
- Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to develop a strategic plan and budget for the Maintenance Department.
- Assists in the inspection of facilities in need of repair and assigns repair tasks to proper personnel.
- Maintains accurate records of facility maintenance, parts, inventory, personnel, contractor, and other facility maintenance activities. Prepares reports as required and/or requested.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheet records and ensure transit properties are up to date.
- Verify and update facility department employee schedules and daily timekeeping duties, including daily sheet, timekeeping software, and exception cards. Determines shift schedules and prepares bid process for annual, ad hoc schedule changes and coverage for scheduled and unscheduled absences.
- Covers for Maintenance Manager in their absence.
- Performs other duties as required.
Typical QualificationsRequired QualificationsKnowledge of: Problem-solving methods, knowledge of materials, tools and standard practices used in facilities construction, repair, alteration, and maintenance. Knowledge and understanding public works regulations and compliance. Preventive maintenance procedures for power tools and shop equipment. Operation of hand and power tools used in the skilled trades, including general construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, ground maintenance and painting. Maintenance and repair of heating and ventilation systems. Familiarity with building construction principles, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trade codes, as well as safety regulations related to hazardous materials handling. .Skills in: Proficient in the use of technology and MS Office Suite applications, and the ability to operate computers and applicable software, and diagnose and resolve problems. Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbal and written, with employees at all levels of the organization, customers, vendors and contractors. Skilled in supervising, coaching, training, and evaluating maintenance personnel, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment. Strong ability to coordinate staff schedules, assign tasks, and effectively manage both fleet and facilities teams. Sound judgment in prioritizing tasks, managing emergencies, and making resourceful decisions under pressure. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent and Five (5) years of varied maintenance and construction in multiple skilled trades and three (3) years of supervisory experience in a represented workforce or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully.Licensures/Certifications and Other RequirementsMust possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and a minimum five (5) years of safe driving record at the time of application. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Flagger Certification, and Forklift Certification. Training provided by Grays Harbor Transit within six (6) months of date of hire.
