Position Overview

Entry level in the maintenance occupation at Environmental Services requiring some knowledge of electronics as well as electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, under close supervision is trained to maintain, repair, replace, modify and calibrate electrical and automation controls, electronic instrumentation, mechanical and process control equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with mandated standards..

Summary of Job Duties

Trains under close supervision to maintain, repair and modify a variety of plant equipment and lift station equipment (e.g., pumps, blowers, drive motors (AC and DC) major control valves, vacuum systems, blowers and fans, heat exchangers, duct work); learns to repair and maintain facility water systems (e.g., drinking and process water lines, waste removal lines, gutters, downspouts and other storm water removal lines); learn to repair, maintain and calibrate temperature control equipment, air handlers, make up air units, water cooled chillers, condenser water towers, boilers, domestic and industrial hot water heaters, backflow preventers; supports the monitoring, adjusting, and writing of programing for Building Automated Systems (BAS) and associated controllers and modules; inspects, maintains and troubleshoots truck scales, hydraulic and electronic weighing equipment and point of sale hardware; learns to troubleshoot and repair building electrical systems including transformers, switch gears and power distribution centers; coordinates with IT services to assist in troubleshooting and replacing hardware such as UPSs, switches and wiring; under close supervision, trains to install, inspect and operate emergency stand-by power generator systems; repair and/or replace equipment and parts (e.g., pumps, motors, packing, seals, impellers, shafts, coils, valves, piping systems, cables, chains, gears, refrigeration compressors, exhaust fans), repair or replace parts in accordance with established preventive maintenance schedule; fabricates and installs equipment and devices to replace existing installations or for use in repair operations; trains to repair process control and automation equipment such as microcomputer, microprocessor and mainframe computer and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) including programming and associated multiplex units. Operates heavy motorized equipment in the performance of specific tasks; enters maintenance and repairs performed, and materials used, into computerized data system.

Performs routine and preventive maintenance on equipment (e.g., security cameras, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, comfort cooling units, gas fired heating systems) and storm and wastewater lift stations (e g., changes oil and oil filters; lubricates motors; changes fuses; oils, greases, checks belts, bearings and seals)

Trains to install new and replacement equipment and devices (e.g., HVAC units, pumps, motors and piping, new electrical circuits, circuit breaker boxes, equipment disconnects, communication cabling, security circuits and cameras, BAS modules, circuits and controls).

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Valid driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Associate Degree in electricalor mechanical engineering and two (2) years industrial electromechanical maintenance and repair experience - OR advanced post-secondary education/training in electromechanical technology and three (3) years of experience in industrial electrical or mechanical maintenance - OR education, training and/or experience in an amount equal to the minimum qualifications stated above.

Supplemental Information

Must complete required electromechanical program training within four (4) years of hire and qualify for movement to full FMT classification.
