The Facilities Operations Unit is responsible for the smooth operation and maintenance / repairs of all facilities and utilities within the entirety of the university.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide general services maintenance tasks such as carpentry, roofing, painting, make minor maintenance and aesthetic changes. This is skilled work in the building maintenance and repair of facilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess working knowledge of the standard practices and methods of carpentry, roofing, painting, electrical and plumbing trades; knowledge of tools and materials used in repairing and constructing wooden articles; knowledge of elementary arithmetic and units of measure; knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trades, Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, or sketches; Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations; Make minor maintenance aesthetical changes to electrical and plumbing fixtures. Ability to perform task which require walking, standing, bending, stooping, and working in awkward positions; Ability to lift moderately heavy objects cutting, bending, securing, wrapping, or finishing the surface of pipes, vents, ducts, drywall, and other materials; Skill in the use of carpenters' hand tools and woodworking machines; skill in mixing paints and in matching and blending colors; Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the painting , minor electrical and minor plumbing trades.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
