Job Description:
The City of Portage has an opportunity for an experienced, maintenance-focused individual to become a Facilities Maintenance Technician. This position will work independently to monitor and maintain the heating and ventilation equipment, and electrical, mechanical, and structural conditions of city buildings, including custodial work and immediate grounds. This position requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as sketches, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints, and write routine reports and correspondence. Basic mathematical skills are needed to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Reasoning ability is necessary to apply a common sense understanding to carry out instructions in a written, oral, or diagram form and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. The desired candidate will have mechanical abilities and an understanding of basic building systems and to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair the various components of those systems. They will be proficient with various computer programs and current electronic devices. Operating a variety of equipment including power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, plumbing snakes and rodders, routers, and grinders will be necessary within this position. To perform work, this position will determine the quantity and types of supplies, materials, tools, and equipment needed for maintenance programs and projects, ensure the maintenance tools and equipment are kept in good order, and maintain time, material, and equipment use records.Salary range is $43,350 - $58,650 and offered commensurate with experience.
