Occupational Summary The maintenance technician position supports the operation and cleanliness of the facility. This position assists with facility and exhibit maintenance, housekeeping, and set up/tear down of special events. Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete work orders and facility projects as assigned.
- Perform routine maintenance of exhibits and facilities.
- Maintain HVAC filters.
- Maintain museum lighting, electrical, and plumbing fixtures.
- Identify issues and perform repairs to exhibit components.
- Painting and wall repair.
- Assist with special maintenance of exhibits and facilities as directed.
- Assist with installation and take-down of travelling exhibits.
- Assist with landscaping and campus beautification.
- Rotate as lead for housekeeping duties during normal business hours when housekeeping staff are not on the schedule.
- Housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, cleaning of restrooms & windows, wiping down exhibits, collection and disposal of trash, compost, and recycle inside and outside of the facility, and other duties as assigned.
- Set-up and tear-down for special events, including evening events.
- Complete housekeeping duties at evening events as assigned.
- Fabrication of exhibit, facility, and programmatic components as assigned.
- Ensure safety standards in compliance with OSHA and museum policies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Assist staff with lost child codes, evacuations, and other safety procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work with hand and power tools.
- Basic knowledge of painting and general maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of housekeeping equipment and techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, construction projects, and/or maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- General building maintenance knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently or supervise small groups.
Education/Experience Required
- High school degree or technical certification preferred.
- Two years of experience with maintenance and/or housekeeping responsibilities.
Working Conditions
- Museum facility, outside, and off-site warehouse.
- Regular schedule may include holidays, nights, and weekends.
Physical Demands
- Standing, lifting, climbing, ability to work on ladders, and in close quarters.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted.
