Job Description:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or recognized equivalent and two journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e. Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) demonstrated by one of the following:

* Texas state license or approved equal license

* NCCER certification

* UTMB-approved certification

* Community college certification or associate degree in a related field.

Must have five years of journeyman-level experience in at least one of the above-listed crafts. Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by the UTMB Rehab Services.

This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing and walking.

Job Description:

Perform at a journeyman level in at least two distinct industrial/commercial trade crafts (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) for maintenance and repair of specialize equipment and machinery.

Job Duties:

* Proactively maintains all aspects of assigned area of responsibility.

* Consult with customers on the priority of work and assume full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns. Serves as liaison between customer and Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant).

* Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Informs appropriate supervisory or managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies and takes appropriate action.

* Performs major repairs on technical systems and supporting equipment.

* Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.

* Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines. Identifies maintenance needs and performs proactive repairs before breakdown occurs.

* Successfully participates in the Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant) sponsored in-house craft trade training program. (Currently NCCER)

* Trains and mentors new personnel in areas of expertise as required. Teaches basic knowledge of codes and proper tool use.

* Reads and interprets and provides marked up blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed.

* Supports area shift coverage, after-hours, or extended projects as needed.

* Attends and participates in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections, and commissioning.

* Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness list i.e. E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team).

* In addition to regular shifts, provides support/response to the institution that operates 24 hours a day seven days a week.

* Attends staff, training, and safety meetings.

* Identifies and reports safety hazards.

* Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures.

* Perform related duties as required.

Equipment:

Test equipment, hand and power tools used in industrial building allied trades. Basic computer skills and ability use and operate handheld electronic communication devices. Skills associated with diagnostic equipment.

Working Environment/Location of Position:

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.

* Exposure to areas under construction.

* Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms.

* Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes.

* Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards.

* Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.

* Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation.

* Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under-floor crawlspaces, and manholes.

Other:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code. The successful candidate may be required to pass a Department of Justice security clearance.

Salary Range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday may be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
