Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing work assignments as a Facility Repair Worker - Advanced. This position performs interior and exterior building, facility, and grounds maintenance and repairs. Tasks will include the inspection, analysis, installation, adjustment, modification, repair, corrective maintenance, replacement, and preventative maintenance work of Building Components (i.e. walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, locks and lock hardware, roofing, skylights, masonry, painting, patching, windows and window glazing, replacement of lights, lamps, and ballasts, repair of furniture / furnishings, etc.), Paved Surfaces (sidewalks, roadways, parking areas, aircraft parking apron, other cement and asphalt surfaces, spillways, etc.), and Various Safety Systems & Equipment. This position provides year-round grounds maintenance. Tasks include but are not limited to mowing and trimming grass, trimming trees, bushes and weeds, operate sweeper truck on roadways and aircraft parking apron weekly, paint line striping as needed, provide weed and pest control on turf areas and fence lines including the application of chemicals as required, snow plowing, salting and methods of ice control, etc., on walkways, roadways, parking areas, aircraft apron, etc. This position is also responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of maintenance utility vehicles, equipment, and attachments as well as related construction equipment.

Salary Information

Starting pay will be $23.69 per hour (03-12), plus an excellent benefits package. A 12-month probationary period is required.

This position will work 4-10 hour days: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details

Conditions of employment:

* This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Policy, which are:

* Must have a valid driver's license;

* Must have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience;

* Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

* Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years

* An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months

* A suspension or revocation of the driver's license

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license as a condition of continued employment. You will be trained on specific vehicles and will receive assistance to obtain the licensure if you do not already possess.

* Must possess or be able to obtain a Pesticide Applicators Certification - Turf & Landscape, issued by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) within 6 months of employment.

* In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check. In addition, the position requires a Common Access Card (CAC). A CAC requires successful completion of a Department of Defense investigation and an additional more in-depth federal background check, for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information.

* All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

* Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.

* The ability to bend, twist, crawl, climb, and lift up to 75 pounds.

Well-qualified applicants will also have the following:

* Experience operating grounds and snow removal equipment (e.g. zero turn mowers, tractors, skid/end loaders, tillers, trimmers, snow blowers, boom/scissor lifts, snow plow, truck salt spreaders, etc.)

* Training and/or experience performing minor remodeling or improvement projects on residential or commercial buildings (e.g. basic cabinetry, masonry, roofing, painting, minor plumbing, repairing doors and hardware, etc.)

* Experience performing preventative maintenance on vehicles or grounds keeping equipment (e.g. small trucks, vans, skid loaders, mowers, trimmers, etc.)
