Do you have a knack for diagnosing maintenance issues and the expertise to fix them? The Dunn County Facilities and Parks Department is seeking a skilled Facilities Technician to join our team.Under the direction of the Facilities & Parks Manager, the Facilities Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of preventive, general and skilled building maintenance and repair functions to County buildings and equipment. This job differs from that of Facilities Worker in that the Facilities Technician is expected to perform skilled and more complex building maintenance and repair functions and activities requiring greater knowledge, training and experience.The anticipated starting wage is between $23.89/hr and $25.23/hr Primary Responsibilities The following duties are primarily performed and which are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Diagnoses, schedules, calibrates and programs the Building Automated system.
  • Performs routine and general maintenance on County buildings and equipment; maintains and repairs boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, circulation pumps, pneumatic valves and controls; repairs electric motors. Uses microprocessor based controllers.
  • Remodels rooms as required; installs and modifies plumbing, wiring, lighting and air conditioning; repairs and finishes walls, ceilings and floors.
  • Performs locksmith duties for the detention facility and County facilities.
  • Monitors and performs required testing of life safety and emergency equipment.
  • Assists in snow removal activities, as required.
  • Assumes duties of the Facilities & Parks Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in building/grounds maintenance and repair experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to travel between work locations.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical or vocational training in building trades as HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical or related field.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for the Facilities Technician to possess.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals, practices, and techniques involved in the repair, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals and techniques applied to locksmith functions.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/codes pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of hand, power, and diagnostic tools applicable to trade.
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions, safety equipment and risk management procedures pertaining to specific duties and responsibilities of the work.
  • Knowledge of HVAC operation, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance trades and fundamentals of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of computerized energy management systems and their applicable programming languages/commands.
  • Skill in implementing preventative maintenance programs and requirements of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems/equipment.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blue prints and diagrams.
  • Skill in implementing maintenance schedules and needs for all facilities.
  • Skill in operating and using hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Skill in using and operating energy management systems, programs, tools and diagnostic equipment to test, repair or replace equipment or malfunctions.
  • Sill in operating all equipment, machinery and systems necessary in performance of the job including boilers, pneumatic controls, diagnostic tools, meters and all associated components.
  • Skill in troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance activities in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical activities.
  • Skill in performing locksmith duties, tasks and functions.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with department personnel, supervisors and Dunn County personnel.
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and community members in written and verbal form.
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.

  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Facilities Technician to possess.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.

Physical and Work Environment Working with mechanical equipment poses potential risks and requires being aware of hands, limbs and clothing in relation to moving mechanical parts to prevent injury. Chemicals used in testing pose potential risks for inhalation of fumes, chemical burns and skin absorption. Steam or exhaust burns pose risks. Electrical shock is a risk involved in working with electronic equipment and tools. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical effort will typically require infrequent exertion of objects weighing up to 100 pounds, regular, but not continuous, exertion of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and/or prolonged and frequent exertion of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
