Shimmick is seeking a Facility Maintainer based out of Jersey City, NJ for the Hudson Bergen Light Rail.

National Division
Shimmicks National Division operates throughout the central and eastern U.S. Comprised of legacy companies, such as Morrison Knudsen, Washington Group, and others, this division has decades-long history of delivering successful transportation, transit, mining infrastructure, and water resources projects. In addition to state DOTs and transit agencies, the National Division has delivered more than $5 billion in work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the water resources (dams, reservoirs, locks, levees) sector. The National Division is delivering Oklahoma Turnpike Authoritys first build-finance project, the $260 million Gilcrease Expressway project in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs various maintenance and repair duties on such heating, cooling, and ventilation systems equipment as steam plant boilers; HVAC valves, pumps, motors, compressors, and other components, hydronic piping, refrigerant piping, and terminal units, fans, and ducts.
- Performs various maintenance and repair duties on plumbing fixtures, such as water closets, urinals, sinks, showers, eclectic water coolers, instantaneous water heaters, gas, water heaters, and floor and other drains, sump pumps, etc.
- Performs all phases of steam plant operation, including fuel handling, preventive maintenance, equipment operation, and training.
- Repairs and maintains MOW and LRV Maintenance Shops tools and equipment, such as car washer, cranes, hoists, lubrication systems, wheel truing machines, paint booth, sand delivery system, steam cleaner, dock lifts, forklifts, lift table, portable car jacks, lathes, bead blaster, parts washer, arbor press, frame straightening equipment, drill press, metal shear, band saws, milling machine, pipe threader/bender, table saw, miter saw, disc sander, welding equipment, etc.
- Performs skilled craft work related to fixed-plant maintenance, such as welding and cutting, pipe fitting, and minor electrical work.
- Repairs and maintain fixed facilities systems, subsystems, and components. This includes overhauling, adjusting, and repairing generators, pumps, overhead doors, fore detection, annunciation, and suppression equipment, including sprinklers, lighting, and all auxiliary equipment.
- Work with sheet metal and piping, and repairs machinery, such as electric motors, compressors, and burners. Trouble shoots and repairs faulty electrical switches.
- Inspects and diagnoses problems, and determines the best way to correct them. Often, this involves reading blueprints, repair manuals, and parts' catalog.Replaces or fixes worn or broken parts, where necessary, or make adjustments.
- Uses such common hand and power tools as, screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers as well as specialized equipment and electronic test devices.Obtain supplies and repair parts from distributors or TFCRC storerooms.
- Transports furniture and/or office or other equipment from one location to another. Removes and/or installs room dividers, partitions, walls, doors, flooring, and furnishings. Maintains contact with the Controller on the Operations Center (20 Office) while on duty.
- Maintains prescribed records and complete various paperwork and forms in a timely fashion.
- Uses a personal computer and the computerized maintenance management information system (CMMIS).
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist as directed during emergencies of any type.
- Subject to 24-hour call-in for emergencies or unusual conditions.
- Works various shifts as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or educational equivalency (GED)
- Must pass the TFCRSs basic skills test
- Must successfully complete the TFCRC Track and Facilities maintainer Training Program, including comprehension for TFCRC rules, instructions, and procedures pertaining to track way structures, and TFCRC MW-3 Guidelines
- Must demonstrate a knowledge of carpentry.
- Must possess a valid drivers license with no suspensions or moving violations within the past 3 years
- At interview, present a satisfactory driver's abstract showing violations, suspensions, and points for the past 3 years
- Must pass required DOT Physical Exam.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, stoop, carrying heavy loads, and climb vertical ladders
- Must be able to step up or down approximately 2 (two) or more feet
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces and loose material safely in day, night or portable lighting conditions
- Candidate should be able to lift or push forces of up to 80 lbs
- Must be able to lift or push forces of up to 80 pounds
