Salary: $25.80 - $29.67 Hourly Location : Hobbs, NM Job Type: Full Time NonExempt Job Number: 202400915 Department: GENERAL SERVICES Opening Date: 08/28/2024 Description Performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, alteration and remodeling of buildings, offices and other City facilities. Essential Duties Performs carpentry, masonry, and other construction work on minor and major City development projects such as facility renovation/repairs or additions. Determines appropriate work methods, tools and materials for maintenance and repair activities ensuring compliance with building code and that proper operational and safety guidelines and procedures are followed. Repairs or constructs articles and structures of wood and metal, such as room additions, partitions, counters, desks, chairs, cabinets, countertops, tables, fences, wood framing and metal stud framing, steel structures, and assembles pre-fabricated structures. Installs and/or repairs shingles or metal roofs; installs drop-in ceilings and acoustical ceiling work. Hangs and installs wallpaper. Installs windows and sashes, doors, floors, carpet, and walls. Installs drywall to include sheet rock, taping and bedding, texturing and painting. Assists in installing concrete walkways including building forms, pouring and finishing concrete, and installing or repairing concrete structures, curbs, footers and walls, block walls, and fence installation. Provides assistance to City electricians and plumbers as needed. Operates and maintains equipment and machinery used in construction such as a nail gun, air compressor, table saw, miter saw, routers, jig saw, bobcat, backhoe, polecat, dump truck, forklift, transit, curb machine, jackhammer, concrete saw, welder and torches, hand tools, powers tools and pneumatic tools on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications This position is subject to the City of Hobbs' Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred. Three (3) years of skilled level experience in building maintenance and repair work required. Two (2) years working for a licensed contractor preferred. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in general building maintenance and construction and related facilities. Knowledge of carpentry, electrical, concrete, floor finishing and painting practices. Ability to read schematics, blue prints or work from sketches. Ability to utilize a transit to shoot grades. Ability to learn building codes. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all City department personnel and general public. LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS Valid state issued driver's license. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
  • The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
  • Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
  • Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.
  • CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).
  • PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
  • Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.
  • Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).
  • Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.
  • Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service
  • 13 Paid Holidays.
  • Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
  • Military Leave - (120 hours per year for general, 183.75 per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
