Description
Under general supervision, the Facility Maintenance Technician position performs repair and maintenance activities relative to City buildings and facilities. Sets up and prepares buildings and facilities for daily use and special events.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
All areas of assignment:
* Setup and prepare buildings and facilities for daily use and special events including general maintenance, cleaning and arranging or re-arranging furniture, equipment and props.
* Performs general services by cleaning streets, sidewalks and parking areas; Maintains and cleans restrooms, cleans and organizes outdoor furniture; Cleans light pole banners, picks up litter and gum removal and graffiti.
* Performs general landscape maintenance including keeping sidewalks/pavers and streets weed free.
* Performs general services by installing and patching drywall; touch up and complete interior paint; works on high security gate; maintains alarm system, EMS and elevators; determines level of repair and assigns workers; troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance; maintains understanding of carpentry practices; installs flooring.
* Responds to service calls; Completes work orders requests as assigned.
* Maintains tracking of equipment and supplies.
Assigned to the General Services Department:
* Completes HVAC evaluations and repairs by replacing contractors, capacitors, air handler blower motors and belts; maintains coils; replaces condenser fan motors; ensures repair and maintenance on building chillers, trailer air conditioner units, package air conditioning units, split systems, heat pumps, and electrical heat.
* Maintains the electrical systems of facilities by installing ceiling fans, and additional outlets and lighting fixtures; upgrades to new components; changes ballasts; replaces or resets time clocks and photo cells.
* Manages plumbing systems by repairing and upgrading faucets; maintains garbage disposals, toilets, kitchen bathrooms and sinks, water heaters, drain pipes, and showers.
* Performs on call duties by responding to problems 24/7 during a rolling 2-week period.
* Purchases equipment and supplies and reconciles Pro-Card.
Assigned to the Public Safety Training Center:
* Sets up for and provides support for trainings/classes.
* Services, maintains, and builds training props.
* Recommends servicing of equipment and vehicles.
Experience and Training
* Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
* At least two (2) years of experience in facility maintenance work or a position that required similar skills. Completion of a related certificate, AAS, or AA program from an accredited college, university or vocational school may substitute for work experience.
Certificates and Licenses Required
* Current Texas Class C driver license or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
* If assigned to the Public Safety Training Center, Class B driver license is preferred.
* This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
