Performs semi-skilled to skilled work in emergency, corrective, and preventive maintenance and repairs to City of Bryan buildings and park facilities. The focus of this position is on the maintenance, repair, and improvement of various plumbing systems.
Essential Job Functions
* Inspects facilities, systems, and their components (e.g. sinks, toilets, faucets, fountains, pipes, motors, pumps, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, identifying and completing necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
* Installs and repairs pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, toilets, faucets, etc.
* Performs routine maintenance of swimming pools.
* Utilizes the maintenance work order system for the purpose of prioritizing, scheduling and documenting work activities.
* Adheres to safety and quality assurance procedures.
* Inspects jobs upon completion and ensures areas are clean; cleans and maintains shop area and equipment.
* Assists with other general maintenance work as needed (e.g. carpentry, painting, electrical, etc.)
* Sets up and tears down materials and equipment for special events.
* Adheres to after-hours, weekend, and holiday standby requirements as needed.
* Performs related duties as required.
* Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED.
* Must possess at least five (5) years of plumbing work experience
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
* Plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
Ability to:
* Perform work independently based on broad instructions and general supervision.
* Demonstrate the initiative to learn individual job tasks and continue to broaden knowledge levels by willingly accepting new responsibilities and attending training to advance skills.
* Safely and efficiently operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and materials used in performing essential functions.
* Read blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's installation manuals.
* Inspect buildings and equipment to locate conditions needing repair; take corrective action.
* Enter, record, and/or maintain documentation of work performed.
* Perform moderate to heavy manual labor indoor and outdoors for extended periods.
* Handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize work assignments, and meet established deadlines.
* Anticipate, identify, and effectively resolve various issues and problems.
* Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
* Remain constantly alert and aware of any workplace hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.
* Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
* Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the area of responsibility.
* Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
* Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
* Journeyman Plumber License or equivalent experience.
* Must be able to access facilities that house Texas Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) System data. As a result, the person selected for the position cannot possess a felony or Class A misdemeanor conviction; or a Class B misdemeanor conviction within the past 10 years.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift, carry, or move objects up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. While in the field this position is exposed to inclement weather, temperature extremes, rough/uneven terrain, moving mechanical parts/equipment, noise, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, pollen, and other airborne particles.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: phone, computer, two-way radio, amp probe, hand and power tools, ladders, and city vehicles/equipment.
