The maintenance work Facility Maintenance Worker I involves the completion of general custodial duties under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor. Responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and safe operations of a specified-work facility; performs routine custodial and building maintenance, including but not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing public areas, plumbing, woodworking, painting, and equipment use; set-up and takedown of recreational areas for programs, activities, and meetings use. Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs general custodial/cleaning duties at assigned recreational facility; ensures facility is presentable to the public.
  • Handles the setup and take down of equipment for programming spaces.
  • Assist with basic facility maintenance and repair tasks like replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles.
  • Operates the ice resurfacing machine at the Sports Center Facility.
  • Performs snow removal from sidewalks or walkways outside of District facilities.
  • May perform work at various Park District facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned
Pay & Schedule: Starting rate: $17.00+ per hour 18-20 hours per week. Nights and Weekends at all three facilities; Weeknights: 2:00PM-10:00PM or 4:00PM-12:00AM Weekends: 5:00AM-1:00PM, 8:00AM- 4:00PM, or 12:00PM-8:00PM Benefits: Annual safety boot reimbursement. Click Here to view the full Job Description. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors, and interact with customers and patrons in a positive manner. The ability to safely use tools, equipment and heavy machinery is required. Must be able to follow written instructions and schedules to properly assist with room set-up and takedown and read warning labels on chemical cleaners. Proactively complete tasks and identify areas that need custodial or maintenance attention. Able to become CPR and AED certified. Physical Requirements Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee works with chemical cleaners and sanitizers. The employee works around heavy machinery and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. Frequently lift and/or move up to and more than 75 pounds; employee is allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment. Work Conditions Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings. Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to warm and/or cool temperatures and/or icy conditions for short or long periods of time. Position may be exposed to high noise level, fumes, dust or odors, uneven ground or varying heights (work on roof, use of a ladder). Works near or operates heavy machinery and/or equipment with vibrations and/or moving mechanical parts.
