Job Type Full-timeDescriptionJob Title: FACILITY TECHNICIAN IDepartment: Public Works Division: FacilitiesReports To: Facilities SupervisorPay Range: 4 Status: Full timeFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPosition Summary: The Facility Technician I is responsible for general and specialized maintenance and repair work on County buildings and facilities at various locations. Work will involve HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general carpentry, etc. This employee may work independently and exercise judgment and discretion in carrying out work details. General supervision is provided by the Facilities Supervisor through consultations and review of the work performed.Essential Functions:
- Performs specific security functions to ensure all buildings are secured daily by unlocking/locking buildings, offices, stairwell doors and work areas.
- Turns on and off lights, checks the HVAC equipment, calls HVAC service contractor as necessary.
- Responds to general operational problems identified by work orders
- Performs building maintenance including minor and routine painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing repairs and other related maintenance activities.
- Reports damage to buildings, furnishings and equipment
- Responds to emergencies such as leaks, flooding, overflowing restroom fixtures and accidents.
- Keeps grounds free of debris, empties trash receptacles and other related grounds duties.
- Removes snow and ice to provide safe parking lots, and sidewalks in adverse weather conditions.
- Performs custodial duties as needed; i.e. cleaning restrooms, vacuuming floors, floor buffing, carpet shampooing, carpet cleaning and other custodial duties.
- Operates power tools and other equipment in performing duties.
- Troubleshoots problems and develops possible solutions.
- Purchases, stores, organizes, inventories, and utilizes maintenance supplies and commodities.
Secondary Functions:
- Provides regular predictable attendance and fosters a cooperative work environment.
- Responds to Riley County Police Dept. in security checks
- Coordinates and participates in special projects as required during and after regular hours, any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
- Monitors expenditures to stay within a set budget.
- Assists with the removal of recyclable materials from office areas and the transporting of these materials to the local re-cycle center.
- Attends meetings and training.
- Assists in moving furniture
- Performs other duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Valid driver's license required.
- Vocational/technical training in one or more of the mechanical trades preferred.
Experience:
- 2 years combined experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general carpentry in an office environment is required.
- Working knowledge of materials, equipment, methods, and practices essential to the maintenance of facilities is required.
- Some knowledge and skill in using standard methods, practices, power tools and equipment of the building, electrical and plumbing trades.
