This position performs various tasks independently or in coordination with a tradesman. Key responsibilities include semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing and construction functions, as well as maintenance and preventive maintenance functions. Tasks may be assigned depending on the workers training and skill capabilities. Independent judgment is required for handling details of each job.Roles and Responsibilities:Safety
- Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster procedures, as outlined in the fire safety policy, knows personal role in the event of a fire while on duty.
- Provides a safe environment; demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention in avoiding unsafe conditions such as but not limited to wet flooring, blocked egress areas etc.
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis.
- Always wears all personal protective equipment when required.
- Carries out duties in a safe professional manner, with focus on customer service as a high priority. Exceeds: No substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff & visitors.
- Ability to use the Life Safety Drawings to identify smoke and fire barrier construction throughout the facility.
- Anticipates potential and environmental safety hazards and takes appropriate actions.
- Uses proper lifting techniques when appropriate.
- Assures proper machine guards are in place.
- Understands and able to use the departments lock out tag out system for equipment under repair.
Emergency Response
- Availability for on call duty when / as required.
- Works additional hours if required, including occasional shift changes due to work assignments. Exceeds: on occasion voluntarily offers to change primary work schedule to accommodate work assigned.
- Participates in availability for unscheduled Emergencies when they occur.
- Participates in Facilities On - Call Weekly Program (candidates hired after 2020).
Systems & Equipment Maintenance
- Performs preventive maintenance on designated hospital equipment.
- Changes medical compressed gas cylinders when needed.
- Performs basic plumbing tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the plumber.
- Performs basic electrical tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the electrician.
- Performs basic carpentry tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the Carpenter.
- Performs basic hvac tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the hvac technician.
- Installs new equipment in accordance with manufactures and CMC system standards.
- Assembles fixtures and furniture.
- Performs PM Inspections as directed by the Facility Manager. Exceeds: Ensures all TJC scheduled inspections as assigned are completed on time.
- Installs Filters in all types of HVAC equipment. Exceeds: keeps track of inventory and maintains compliance.
Facilities Support
- Maintains tools, inventory, and equipment.
- Assists other members of department with performing required duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Helps to move furniture and other designated pieces of equipment.
Information Management
- Accurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve maintenance related data.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the work order system.
Required Skills and Experience:
- HS Diploma or equivalent experience
- The candidate should have a minimum of one year experience as a handyman helper or laborer in mechanical or construction trades. This includes the ability to perform all types of maintenance and minor construction functions and should understand the terminology.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder.
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Onsite at our Main Campus
- Periodic travel to other facilities can be expected in this role
