In this role, the successful candidate The FGP Phlebotomist will perform routine Phlebotomy (specimen procurement), via venipuncture or finger while following established protocol. In this role, the Phlebotomist will be responsible for preparing patients before drawing blood, explain blood draw procedures to patients and answer any questions about the process, gather medical testing materials including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes, and verify patient information and label blood samples properly. The FGP Phlebotomist must have working knowledge of the laboratory information system for specimen accessioning, label generation and other computer related operations to facilitate specimen processing.Job Responsibilities:Clinical Responsibilities Performs routine Phlebotomy in a laboratory or patient area. Aware of patient's frame of mind and general appearance before proceeding with venipuncture. Strictly follows departmental and standard clinical operating procedures. Labels all specimens accurately by affixing the computer-processing label. Handles STATS specimen immediately. Labels Blood bank specimens properly as set by laboratory protocol. Performs Quality Control Phlebotomy Procedures in the laboratory. Disposes of used needles immediately after use in the appropriate containers. Carries out safety and quality control procedures on a daily basis. Strictly complies with isolation and sterile procedures. Completes necessary intake which includes obtaining vitals and all other point of care testing within the scope of the practice when needed. Follows guidelines for validating patient medical record when accessing and updating information, including patient name and date of birth. Assists with maintaining patient flow to and from rooms. Assists in escorting patients and specimens throughout the facility. Ensures rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient. Communicates the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake Ensures the appropriate translation services or equipment is in place prior to the start of visit Works with clinical team to ensure logbooks related to equipment, specimen collection and other clinical safety measures are followed per FGP standards. Follows-up with outside laboratories related to any outstanding lab specimens Maintains patient privacy as it relates to HIPPA standards. Reviews in-basket folders for any necessary tasks related to patient lab requisition Utilizes EPIC functionality to review and update patient laboratory records as well as maintain communication with peers and supervisors related to patient care Stocks exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linen and medical equipment as needed. Effectively communicates as supplies need to be replenished. Supports FGP Clinical Quality Management by facilitating appropriate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment. Reviews appropriate downtime procedures as it relates to patient visit Completes annual competencies such as Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, HIPPA compliance, etc. Checks medical supplies for expiration dates and effectively communicates as supplies need to be replenished Performs other duties as assigned.Patient Experience and Access

Takes a proactive approach in ensuring that practice staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold standard principles.Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a High school diploma or the equivalent required. One year of Phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures and finger sticks. Practical knowledge of information system operations. Phlebotomy Certificate and/or Certification in Medical Assisting or equivalent experience. Appropriate interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and other customers of the Cancer Center. Strong verbal communication skills in English language. Strong writing skills in the English language to include, but not limited to, legibility, neatness and completeness of thought. The salary range for the role is $48,274.09 - $56,178.30 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
