SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the Family Case Worker

Responsible for linking the Head Start/Early Head Start center, the family, and related community resources; does related work as required. Receive on-the-job-training; subject to the direction of Early Head Start Manager. The person in this position is responsible for implementation of programs and policies related to child development, health, family and community partnerships.

  • Recruits children and families.
  • Screens new children's applications.
  • Interviews to complete enrollment process.
  • Assigns children to classrooms.
  • Record keeping including:
  • Children's files
  • Health data tracking system
  • Immunization surveys
  • IFPA
  • Nutrition Assessment.
  • Parent interest survey form
  • Referrals
  • Prepare data for computer input. Data entry including Genesis Earth
  • Health summaries, PIR report, Monthly reports, Correspondence with families
  • Other Duties as assigned

Health screenings:

v Growth assessments

v Developmental screening

v Blood pressure

v Urinalysis

v Vision

v Hearing (if necessary)

v Makes home visits (at least two per year).

v Contacts parents who visit centers.

v Maintains roll books and daily absentee follow up to ensure that funded enrollment is maintained.

v Follows up to ensure that all identified children receive medial and/or dental treatment.

v Develops resource network.

v Refers and follows up to community agencies.

v Assists with center emergencies (i.e., center closing, sick children, evacuation).

v Assists with classroom and other center coverage as needed.

v Acts as resource to parents.

v Encourages parents to participate in center activities.

v Coordinates with staff to ensure parent participation in activities such as classroom, field trips, kitchen, office, workshops, meetings and visits to community agencies.

v Works with staff and parents in developing community projects.

v Assists and support parents as they move toward self sufficiency.

v Provides officer training and follow up for parents, community and other staff.

v Maintains the parent area in a neat and inviting manner.

v Submits In Kind monthly report.

v Recognizes parent and community volunteers.

v Provides health/mental health education to children, parents and staff. Attend agency and community meetings, workshops and trainings and NAC's.

v Attends field trips and provide first aid, if necessary.

v Accompanies children or staff to hospital to obtain emergency treatment when necessary.

v Checks and stocks first aid kits monthly.

v Assists with yearly program self assessment.

v Participates in center staff Child/Family Study Team process.

v Assists in obtaining information for children with suspected disabilities.

v Remains with children left after school or returned by the bus.

v Provides transportation for parents using agency or privately owned vehicle.

v Models positive work ethic for parents and staff.

15.00 - 15.30 USD Hourly

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree in Social Work, Social Services, Sociology, Human Services, Psychology, Early Childhood Development or closely related field required or equivalent in training and experience. Bachelors preferred. Must have intermediate computer skills and be knowledgeable of Microsoft office.

v Training and skill required in nursing /health related areas or education in child development preferred.

v Knowledge of child and family health care.

v Previous experience with community work and low income families.

v Computer experience required.

v Head Start/Early Head Start experience desirable
