Volunteers of America is one of the nation's largest comprehensive human services organizations with 16,000 mission-driven professionals, dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.What You Will Do to Change LivesAs the Family Peer Recovery Coach (PRC), you will provide peer support to women and families dealing with the effects of opioid and other substance use disorder. Under the supervision of the Family Licensed Clinician, the PRC will function as a guide and role model for women from first encounter with the program through long-term aftercare. The PRC will serve as an advocate and will stand by and provide support for women as they have encounters with benefits agencies, courts, child welfare and other such settings. The PRC performs a wide range of tasks to assist women in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.What's In It For You!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts outreach and education to medical and human service professionals regarding the opioid epidemic and resources available to pregnant and parenting women in need of SUD treatment.
  • Conducts outreach activities in the nine parishes designed to reach women who are pregnant and or parenting and are using harmful and illicit substances including but not limited to opioids.
  • Provides interim support, encouragement and resource acquisition services to individuals seeking, or considering admission for treatment services.
  • Provides specific information about recovery and recovery processes.
  • Assists individuals in completing intake, stand by as an advocate, and guide in the early days of treatment to assure a smooth transition to treatment routine.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment meetings and/or provides formal peer support groups including empowerment, recovery, and self-advocacy.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring and engagement strategies for women receiving services and meets individuals in community-based settings to assist them in practicing newly acquired skills.
  • Assists women and families post discharge as they reintegrate into the community to support ongoing recovery including access to community-based supports.
  • Helps in coordinating, managing and monitoring of the FFR program.
QualificationsWhat You Will Bring:
  • Lived experience with a behavioral health diagnosis
  • At least 12 months (24-36 months preferred) of continuous demonstrated recovery stability
  • Must be state certified as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) or be able to obtain certification within 90 days and maintain it.
  • Have reliable transportation and be able to travel approximately 60% of work hours.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
