Position Description:
La Copita Research and Demonstration Ranch is a 2,726 acre tract of rangeland located in western Jim Wells County, about 40 miles west of Corpus Christi, Texas and approximately 15 miles south and west of Alice. La Copita Research and Demonstration Ranch is operated by the Texas A&M University Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management to address the multifaceted issues facing rangeland, wildlife, and natural resources management in South Texas. La Copita Research and Demonstration Ranch will operate as a functioning ranch and serve as a multidisciplinary, system focused, ranch scale research and educational hub for the South Texas ecoregion with a primary focus to promote sustainable management of South Texas ecosystems.
The Farm Foreman I will work closely with the current Ranch Operations Manager and under direction, carry out daily ranch operations and facilities maintenance, which may include brush management, basic construction, and working with cattle. There may be opportunities to work with grazing and hunting lessees, along with Texas A&M University students and faculty, assisting with data collection for research projects and field work. Housing is not provided. Ranch trucks and UTVs are provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* General handyman and repair abilities (fences, electrical, plumbing, ranch vehicles and equipment, etc.)
* Maintain equipment including oil changes and basic maintenance needed to keep equipment in working order.
* Assist with purchasing supplies and equipment
* Assist in coordinating and assigning daily work schedules for student interns.
* Assist with work on various projects improving the property.
* Maintenance of roads, landscaping, and fencing
* Drive tractors with farm implements, and trucks with trailers
* Welding and use of other shop equipment
* Other duties as required
Required Education and Experience:
* -High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* -Two years of related experience working on ranch/cattle operation.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
* Work both independently and as part of a team.
* Proactive in solving problems and bringing issues/concerns to Ranch Operations Managers' attention.
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* Ability to lift/move at least 50 lbs.
* Ability to safely and responsibly operate ranch equipment.
* Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred licenses/certifications:
* Valid driver's license.
