Salary: $17.37 - $20.13 HourlyLocation : 1 Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor- Main CampusJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 1308Process Level: Scientific LaboratoryOpening Date: 10/03/2024Position Description Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a dedicated and motivated Farm Hand to assist with greenhouse and field work to support our ongoing research in plant genetics. This position will involve hands-on work at our Research Field Station and associated fields and greenhouses. Position Responsibilities
- Assist with general plant care, including mowing, irrigation, and other tasks as needed.
- Perform greenhouse tasks such as filling pots, mixing soil, and irrigation (experience preferred but not required; training available).
- Operate power equipment, including lawnmowers, weedwhackers, and rototillers.
- Maintain cleanliness of greenhouses and growing spaces through sweeping, mopping, and general upkeep.
- Work safely with pesticides and disinfectants.
- Rotate weekend and holiday shifts as required.
- Travel between various locations is required.
Position Requirements Education: High school diploma or equivalent.Experience: Some experience working with plants is preferred but not mandatory.Skills: Basic knowledge of plant care is a plus.Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.Other: A valid driver's license and personal vehicle are preferred. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform tasks requiring bending, stretching, standing, and walking for extended periods. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, and inclement weather.
