Summary:AgriNorthwest is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented
Farm Intern to join our local farm team. The Farm Intern provides support through technical expertise, project management, data analysis, and other essential tasks needed during the corresponding season. Interns works closely with management to further the objectives of the farm and is expected to learn through making significant contribution to the farming operations. Interns are selected based on their potential to become future employees and will be exposed to experiences and opportunities to help them learn, grow, and succeed.Responsibilities:
- Take initiative to learn, inquire, solve problems, and stay busy during the internship Assist with data collection and interpretation of on-farm trials, observation plots, and studies.
- Work along-side managers, agronomists, general laborers to accomplish the projects and assignments.
- Actively participate and engage during trainings, group conversations, and management meetings.
- Assist with land prep projects such as tree removal, ripping, disking, and fumigation.
- Scout for pests and overall orchard health; submit well-written, timely reports.
- Understand instructions from management to implement and perform assignments correctly.
- Learn the farm, division, and company's culture and expectations.
- Promote a positive attitude that encourages others to meet company objectives and priorities.
- Be willing to assist where needed.
- Work within company-established policies and procedures as well as Good Agricultural Practices.
- Maintain vehicle, UTV, home, office area, electronic resources, etc. in clean, organized, and functional manner.
- Assist management with periodic safety updates of manuals and records.
- Notify supervisors immediately of any food or employee safety issues and concerns.
- Champion a best-in-class safety program by attending all safety training, complying with all food safety programs, using PPE and adhering to all other EHS programs.
Qualifications:
- A valid driver's license with good driving record. Able to operate vehicles/UTVs.
- Minimum 2 year college student working towards a Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Understanding of basic agronomic principles practices that can be related to fruit and nut production.
- Experience operating farm equipment including tractors with implements and GIS/GPS systems a plus.
- Professional and proactive attitude with strong attention to detail.
- Strong demonstrated interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Work an average of 40-60 hours per week in addition to nights, weekends, and holidays, per business needs.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job which includes regularly lifting and moving up to 50lbs, as well as specific vision and communication abilities.
