Position DetailsPosition Information Internal Posting?Posting Number SP004661P Position Title Farm Operations Foreman Division/College College of Agricultural & Life Sciences Department Branch Stations-Kimberly Location Kimberly, Off Campus Location - Kimberly Posting Context Statement Established in 1950, the Kimberly Research & Extension Center encompasses 180 acres of irrigated land, four greenhouses, laboratories, a seed processing and storage facility, and a potato storage research complex.KREC provides research and extension programs that support agriculture for the eight counties of the Magic Valley. Research teams investigate disease management techniques, potato storage practices, plant-insect interactions and biological control, and weed management practices.Position Overview This position works under the general guidance of the Operations Manager to manage all aspects of field, equipment, and operations for the UI Kimberly Research and Extension Center (KREC) and oversees the field operations of the Foundation Seed program in the Magic Valley. The position ensures that the Center provides high-quality support to resident UI and other research scientists. Critical elements of management include hiring, training, and supervising the Center's full-time and hourly farm staff; overseeing complex plant production protocols associated with research projects; purchasing and maintaining vehicles and equipment essential to Center operations; and coordinating day-to-day field operations. This position is central to the successful completion of the Center's research mission.Unit URL Position Qualifications Required Experience
  • Four years of agricultural experience
  • Two years delegating the work of others
  • Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals

  • Keeping records
  • Farm management techniques, including irrigation, equipment operation and maintenance and crop management practices
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to successfully pass a driver's record check
  • Possess a limited (private) pesticide applicator's license and chemigation applicator's license or the ability to obtain these licenses within three months
  • Must be able to work odd and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays to meet business needs
Additional Preferred
  • Degree in agriculture, agronomy, mechanics or related field
  • Knowledge of the requirements of field research
  • Experience running, troubleshooting, and completing minor repairs of farm equipment, tools and machinery
  • Knowledge of proper chemical application safety procedures
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to:
    • Work in adverse environmental conditions and with toxic chemicals
    • Climb ladders, bend and stoop
    • Lift, carry or otherwise move items weighing up to 70 pounds
    • Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday
    • Work in inclement weather conditions
