- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, Education, or a related field; OR
- Associate's degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, Education, or a related field; OR
- 2-5 years of experience in food systems, institutional food service, education, or program management, with a focus on developing and implementing programs that foster community collaboration, support sustainable food practices, and promote health and well-being.
- Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills, with a focus on building and maintaining relationships among a diverse set of stakeholders, and versatile problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes.
- Familiarity with grant seeking, writing, and program evaluation methods, including the ability to identify funding opportunities, develop compelling proposals, and assess program effectiveness.
- Experience in budget management and proficiency in basic math/forecasting to analyze financial data and support informed decision-making.
- Passion for enhancing community health and well-being, supporting local economies, and promoting sustainable food and environmental systems.
Preferred:

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective: The Farm to School Specialist will lead a coordinated effort to enhance farm-to-school activities across Greeley-Evans School District 6. This role will focus on procuring locally sourced foods by managing local food bid processes and fostering relationships with local and regional food producers. The Specialist will support agriculture and nutrition education and oversee the development and maintenance of school and community youth gardens. Key responsibilities include grant writing, developing agriculture and nutrition educational materials, evaluating program effectiveness, training nutrition professionals, promoting related events, and collaborating with community organizations to enhance student wellness and nutrition initiatives. The Specialist will ensure that all farm-to-school activities are accessible, equitable, inclusive, diverse, and culturally responsive, fostering personal, community, and planetary health, rooted in the principles of reparative justice and nutrition sovereignty. Essential Functions:
- Recruits and maintains relationships with local farmers and producers, focusing on historically underserved farmers and ranchers (HUFR) by planning and implementing marketing, outreach, and events that strengthen farmer-buyer and rancher-buyer relationships.
- Oversees annual Farm-to-School bid processes, including bid document development, bid solicitation, bid evaluation, and bid award.
- Identifies and applies for relevant funding opportunities related to Farm-to-School activities, including school and youth gardens, sustainability efforts, waste management and reduction, and equipment, while being responsible for subsequent reporting and evaluation.
- Develops, plans, and delivers tailored training programs for school nutrition professionals, emphasizing the significance of local food procurement, knife skills, whole food processing, and other related practices.
- Ensures the implementation and sustainability of Colorado Proud School Meal Day, Farm-to-School Month, and other related events.
- Develops and promotes accessible, equitable, and culturally-responsive Farm-to-School educational materials and events for the PK-12 setting, including but not limited to farmer profiles, farm videos, school garden resources, cafeteria tastings, and farm field trips.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers to support school gardens, local food processing, and other related programming and events.
- Attends Farm-to-School program-related meetings and conferences to stay informed about best practices, share insights, and collaborate with community organizations on innovative strategies to provide Farm-to-School and Nutrition Education events.
- Designs engaging outreach materials for teachers, parents, and community members to promote Farm-to-School initiatives and foster stakeholder collaboration.
- Serves as a member of the District 6 Student Wellness Committee.
- Develops evaluation methods and surveys for the Farm-to-School program, analyzes data to assess effectiveness, and prepares statistical reports with insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement and sustainability.
Additional Qualifications:
- Bilingual/Biliterate
- Experience in advancing justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, belonging, and liberation initiatives among a culturally diverse community.
- Certified Food Protection Manager Certification; OR
- ANAB-accredited food handler/safety training certificate; OR
- Experience in developing and implementing food safety programs in educational settings, following Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) principles.
