Job SummaryCommunity Work-Study ProgramThe Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest. Goals of this program include:
- Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations.
- Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom.
- Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership.
- Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Familiarize self with the region's community engagement plan and the goals for your chapter. This could be focused community engagement with geographic regions or specific communities.
- Meet with representatives from external organizations should there be a need for partnership development with critical organizations in the chapter. This work may be done in conjunction with the Chapter Executive Director and/or the Chapter Community Volunteer Leaders (CVLs).
- Ensure community engagement activity is recorded in the program tool to support analysis of field program activities.
- Recruit additional community engagement and Latino Engagement Teams as needed to build up the region's workforce.
- Coordinate with the Chapter Executive Director, territory DPX, and Regional CEP Lead on partnership development or priority community engagement work.
- Serve as the partnerships focal point for the Red Cross chapter.
- Ensure that all community engagement teams and Latino engagement teams in the chapter provide updates and reports about field activity on a regular basis to be shared with regional leadership.
- Ensure prioritized communities can receive information and have an opportunity to provide feedback to the Red Cross.
- Organize monthly meetings or as needed for the Chapter CEP workforce to improve skill development or share updates.
- Provide program guidance and support for the chapter CEP workforce about process, tools, and troubleshooting.
Minimum Requirements- Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
- Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates students.
- Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
- Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number.an eligible non-citizen.
- Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
- Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.

Other Requirements - Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
- Promptly complete all required training.
- Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Reliable transportation to travel throughout Webb County.
Rate of Pay: $10.00/hour for up to 15 hours per weeklyAll positions are security-sensitive.
