Federal Work Study - Student Worker - Environmental Lab Technician Assistant

Overview:

The Co-op assists CIT and EVT faculty in preparation of lab classes and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The student also assists in all other areas necessary for smooth operation of the EVT program. These may include but are not limited to preparing laboratory supplies, organization of materials, giving presentations to perspective students, representing the program at college and community functions and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: Assist with preparation of laboratory set ups for EVT courses:

Environmental Microbiology - pour plates, grow cultures, streak plates individual lab setups may take as long as 8 hours Water and Wastewater Technology collection of surface water as well as wastewater and sludge samples from several offsite locations Fluid Mechanics - set up and maintain flume for each lab experiment Environmental Geology - maintain mineral and rock specimens, prepare groundwater model and aquifer yield demonstrations, set up laboratory practical Environmental Chemistry - Solution Preparation, preparation and collection of samples both on and off campus, laboratory maintenance Solid Waste Management - Coordination of supplies and materials for student project Environmental Sampling Repair and maintenance of equipment, prepare and break down of coolers, and set up and breakdown scenarios .

Air Pollution Control Preparation and maintenance of stack sampling equipment Open and close labs as needed for ASCE competition preparations Program support EVT co-op helps in delivering materials and providing administrative support for off campus offerings at MSD as well as other locations. Program/College Recruiting The co-op represents the EVT program and the college at public events such as the Greater Cincinnati Earth Day Celebration held at Sawyer Point, Earth Jam & Environmental High School Day. This student also meets with groups of potential students and assists with demonstrations and laboratory tours.

Minimum Requirements: Computer skills general and field specific, ability to work independently, strong rapport with peers, faculty and others. Able to perform tasks in a professional manner.

If using Federal Work Study Award: 1. Student must have completed a FAFSA for the current school year. 2. Student must meet and continue to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress 3. The student must be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen. 4. The student must demonstrate financial need.

Compensation:$14.00 per hour Status: Part time, no more than 20 hours per week Contract. Affiliation: N/A
