SUMMARY
Assists in the care and treatment of feedlot cattle by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
* Monitors cattle by riding the feedlot pens on horseback to identify sick, injured, or stressed animals; removes the sick or injured cattle from pens to be medically treated.
* Assists with the receiving, unloading, sorting, and processing of cattle as assigned by the Feedlot and/or Cattle Manager.
* Assists in the medical treatment of sick or injured cattle by following an established medical-treatment plan provided by the Staff Veterinarian.
* Moves cattle from pen to pen as instructed by the Cattle Manager and/or Lead Cowboy to rotate cattle according to production schedules.
* Trains, shoes, feeds, and medically treats horses to provide healthy, productive animals.
* Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
* High school diploma, GED or equivalent (Preferred, but not required)
* Knowledgeable in the areas of animal health and cattle conditions generally acquired with a minimum of two to five years related experience and/or training
* Prior experience working with cattle in one or more of the cattle production segments (cow-calf, stocker, cattle feeding) is preferred
Language Skills
* Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
* Ability to write simple correspondence.
* Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
* Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
* Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
* Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
* Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Additional Requirements
* Adequate horsemanship skills
* Must be able to saddle and ride a horse.
* Must provide own tack.

* The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
* The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
