DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in and lead in a two-person team with the Field Based Peer Specialist. Work collaboratively with shelter staff to address the needs of clients with substance use disorders in the shelter system. Supervise Peer Specialists. Use crisis management, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction strategies with clients who experienced an overdose or adverse effect from substances. Use trauma informed practices to engage clients. Conduct SBIRT screenings. Assist Peer(s) in providing NARCAN training and other harm reduction education to all clients in the shelter program. Utilize group and individual format to assist clients in making and achieving both harm reduction and recovery goals. Creating linkages and referrals for clients. Document progress in notes, and complete monthly reporting for DHS. This job is in a residential setting, so staff will be expected to meet with the client in person, and to also engage with the clients in the residence. Position will be supervised by licensed clinical staff in the outpatient 822 program. Clinical hours in this position are in a qualified setting for clinical experience hours. Related Duties as assigned.
HOURS:
Full-week 37.5 hours per week
+ Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm
+ Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
+ 4 full days in field
+ 1 full day in office
QUALIFICATIONS:
MSW or CASAC required. LMSW or LMSW license preferred. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR/First Aid/Narcan. Basic computer literacy required.
*Vaccination preferred but not requred.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Fred Cooper Substance Abuse Service Center (SASC), which is licensed by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and funded by Medicaid and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, serves people with alcohol and substance abuse problems who are homeless or marginally housed. SASC also has services specifically designed for clients who are dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse. One of a number of BRC's low-threshold programs, SASC provides the setting and support necessary for severely dysfunctional chronic alcoholics and other substance abusers with poor treatment histories to have a reasonable chance of attaining long-term sobriety and stability in their lives.
