Job Summary:

CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Special Inspections Field Representative based in the Detroit, Atlanta, Boston metro, or New York area to join their U.S. Field Evaluations and Verifications team and to provide services to clients throughout the US. As a one-time evaluation program, CSA Group's field evaluation services help manufacturers get their products into the North American market when certification is not a viable option yet proof of compliance to local requirements is still needed. Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical evaluations of non-certified equipment according to specified code (or in combination with other applicable requirements). Ensures product meets technical requirements and is free of potential for fire and shock hazards. Decisions are based on field evaluations and testing under the Field Evaluation program. Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.

  • Communicate with clients in a professional manner to schedule inspection appointments, review costing procedures, answer questions, and provide technical information service and direction based on the scope of the Field Evaluation program. Reviews submitted technical drawings for evaluation.

  • Document, with sufficient detail, technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment. Reviews details of corrective action with client.

  • Conduct research on technical and procedural issues, including: technical research on standards, Special Inspection Guidelines. Collaborates with Engineering, Lab and colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation and past practices.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Sciences with 3 years industry experience; or

  • Engineering Technology or Associates Degree with 5 years industry related experience; or

  • Electrician with 5 years industry related experience; or related technical field with 7+ years industry related experience.

Experience:

  • Certification / Lab Testing experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, as well as general laboratory procedures.

  • Knowledge of:

  • U.S. and Canadian based electrical standards and ability to apply these standards to local installation requirements and/or codes (eg. NEC, CEC, NFPA 790 & 791, SPE-1000, and SPE-3000)

  • NEC, NFPA and UL standards

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter; good decision-making skills and organizational skills.

  • Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.

  • Ability to manage multiple inspection files and changing schedules and deadlines with supervision.

  • Ability to use calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, hand tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations.

  • Good command in English language skill written and oral.

Travel: Ability to travel as needed and/or with short notice (up to 75% travel).

In New York, the typical hiring range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000; however, based on a variety of considerations (such as education, licenses, certifications and/or, experience,) CSA Group reserves the right to flexibility outside of the stated range.
