Job Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Journeyman is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and responding to emergency service requests to ensure the smooth operation of a chemical plant. Reporting to the General Foreman and Facilities Maintenance Manager, the journeyman works with a team to maintain equipment efficiency and support safe plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventive Maintenance:

* Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and adjustments on equipment.

* Identify potential issues and implement corrective measures.

* Maintain accurate maintenance logs and inspection reports.

Corrective Maintenance:

* Address service requests and diagnose equipment malfunctions.

* Repair or replace defective components to restore functionality.

* Collaborate with technicians and tradespeople for complex repairs.

Emergency Maintenance:

* Respond to emergency situations like equipment breakdowns or safety hazards.

* Coordinate efforts to minimize downtime and ensure safety.

* Update management on repair progress and status.

Equipment Troubleshooting and Repair:

* Diagnose and repair failures in electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

* Work on chemical plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, pumps, and motors.

* Verify equipment functionality post-repair to meet safety standards.

Safety and Compliance:

* Follow safety protocols and participate in safety training.

* Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Daily Tasks:

* Preventive maintenance on boilers, turbines, piping, and mechanical systems.

* Inspect welded joints and structural components for quality assurance.

* Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

* Use welding techniques like SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW for equipment repair.

* Maintain documentation of maintenance activities.

Education:

* High school diploma or equivalent required.

* Trade school certification in maintenance or welding is preferred.

Experience:

* Proven industrial maintenance experience in chemical plant environments.

* Proficiency in preventive and corrective maintenance techniques.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

* Strong troubleshooting skills in industrial, mechanical, and control systems.

* Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.

* Skilled in various welding processes and techniques.

* Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

Work Location and Travel:

* Primary work at the chemical plant with periodic travel to other locations, potentially involving long-distance driving.

Work Environment:

* Industrial setting requiring fire-resistant clothing.

* Exposure to extreme temperatures, hazardous materials, and loud environments.

* Physical demands include stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting heavy objects.

Physical Requirements:

Talk/Hear: Required to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other personnel, as well as to follow verbal instructions and respond to alarms or signals during maintenance tasks.

Stand/Sit: Needed to perform tasks such as operating equipment, completing detailed repair work, monitoring systems, and conducting inspections efficiently and safely.

Walk: Frequently required navigate the facility, access various equipment and workstations, inspect different areas, and transport tools or materials needed for maintenance tasks.

Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Required to handle tools, operate machinery, perform precise repairs, troubleshoot equipment, and manipulate small components such as bolts, wiring, and fasteners.

Climb: Occasionally needed to access elevated equipment, inspect machinery on platforms, maintain structural components, and perform repairs or installations at heights, such as on ladders, scaffolding, or catwalks.

Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Occasionally performed to access tight or confined spaces, perform maintenance and repairs on equipment at ground level, inspect piping systems, and complete tasks in areas with limited accessibility.

See: Needed to read blueprints and schematics, inspect equipment for wear or damage, ensure proper alignment of components, and verify the quality of repairs and maintenance tasks.

Carry, weight, Lift: Frequently needed to transport tools, equipment, and materials; install or replace machinery components; and perform maintenance tasks requiring heavy objects to be moved or positioned safely.

Exposure to work: Includes working in industrial environments with various mechanical, electrical, and control systems; potential exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and high noise levels; and working at heights, confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
