Job Description:
Performs skilled trades work assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines and appurtenances, operating equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Field Operations Crew Supervisor.Responsibilities:Receives, performs, and completes work orders for basic utilities maintenance work as assigned.Installs water and sewer infrastructure for both water distribution and sewer collection systems including water lines, fire hydrants, sewer lines, manholes, and air release valves.Installs, repairs, and replaces taps and services for water and sewer; installs meters and bypass valves; changes meter riser boxes and meters.Repairs, replaces, and installs manholes, covers, and inverts; repairs or replaces hydrants.Operates trucks and backhoe to backfill trenches, open holes, dig trenches, and set trench boxes; operates air hammer, bush hog, tap machine, and borer to dig under sidewalks and roads; operates concrete mixer and installs low pressure pump stations.Assists with service truck organization and inventory.Performs preventative maintenance and tests sewer lines using smoke, acoustical/sonar, and flow monitors; cleans sewer lines with jetting, rodding, or bucket machines and jet vac equipment; videos sewer lines with cameras for structural assessment and tap identification.Tests water lines; conducts pressure check, hydrostatic pressure check, and chlorine test; exercises valves, flushes lines and hydrants.Locates and marks water and sewer services.Prepares and maintains records and work orders; draws maps of water and sewer lines and intersection sheets using GIS.Sets up work zones and flags traffic; puts out signs, closes lanes, sets up lane shifts, and closes roads as directed.Performs right-of-way maintenance; mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, weed eats, trims trees and shrubs.Performs minor repairs and maintenance to assigned equipment.Responds to and investigates customer complaints, service calls, and makes necessary repairs.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Obtain North Carolina Grade I Wastewater Collection and/or Class C Water Distribution, Competent Person, Flagger, and CPR certifications within two years of hire. Valid commercial driver's license with a Class A tanker endorsement in the State of North Carolina, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Some knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of utility lines; some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of utility lines and appurtenances; thorough knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools; ability to operate back hoe and other medium construction equipment; ability to perform manual and semiskilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, and the general public.Physical Requirements:This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to vibration and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).#J-18808-Ljbffr
