FIELD PAYROLL AUDITOR Job Number: 405670 Description BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT FIELD PAYROLL AUDITOR OFFICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION Payroll Division Number of Vacancies: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $60,744.00* *NOTE: This title is on a step schedule and the salary range for the grade V-12 schedule is $60,744.00 - $102,300.00. New hires will start at the first step of $60,744.00 annually. The starting salaryis non-negotiable. This position is open to current LABORERS UNION BIDDERS AND the PUBLIC. Only current City employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with LABORERS INTERNATIONAL UNION OF NORTH AMERICA - LOCAL 1001 (BARGAINING UNIT 54) are considered BIDDERS and are eligible to bid. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment. Under general supervision, audits and processes payrolls for field staff, and conducts field visits to audit timekeeping and payroll practices; and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Audits Chicago Fire Department Telestaff scheduling data and confirms that it transfers to the Chicago Time and Attendance (CATA) system * Audits Emergency Medical Services' FLSA overtime * Reviews and processes settlement agreements and arbitration awards * Receives and audits timerolls submitted from field offices to determine validity and accuracy of time recorded * Resolves discrepancies on timerolls and authorizes payment * Conducts field visits to review timekeeping practices * Instructs field staff on proper timekeeping procedures * Prepares and codes dummy payrolls and submits for processing * Keeps field staff apprised of overtime pay policies for union employees * Maintains records of payroll deductions, employee benefits, insurance, accrued leave, and personal information * Receives, reviews pay checks for accuracy, and sorts pay checks for distribution to appropriate field locations * Responds to employee inquiries regarding pay scales and overtime policies * Prepares personnel expense reports * Prepares quarterly reports Additional duties may be required for this position. LOCATION: Office of Public Safety Administration DIVISION: Payroll ADDRESS: 3510 S Michigan Ave DAYS: Monday through Friday HOURS: 7:00 am to 3:00 pm THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of timekeeping and payroll preparation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. NOTE: A copy of your official transcripts will be required at the time of interview, if applicable. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview, which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected. Selected Bidders will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.
